PARTS – DEFINITIONS AND IT’S USES
➢ Application Button – The application menu enables you to access common tools. Some application menu choices have
additional menus that show related commands. To open the application menu, click the application button. Clicking it again
closes the application menu.
➢ Drawing Cursor – In the drawing area, the appearance of the cursor changes: If you are prompted to specify a point location,
the crosshairs cursor is displayed. If you are prompted to select an object, the cursor changes to a small square called a
pickbox. If you are prompted to enter text, the cursor is a vertical text entry bar.
➢ Coordinate axis – AutoCAD use 2D and 3D Cartesian coordinate systems that locate data at fixed coordinates. X-, y-, and z-
coordinates are not inherently geographic locations; instead they are locations relative to an arbitrary geometric origin (0,0,0).
➢ Model and Layout Space – A layout is a 2D working environment for creating drawing sheets. The area within a layout is
called paper space, where you can add a title block, display scaled views of model space within layout viewports, and create
tables, schedules, notes, and dimensions for your drawing.
➢ Command Prompt/Window – Accepts command and system variable input and displays prompts that guide you through the
command sequence.
➢ Status bar – Displays the cursor location, drawing tools, and tools that affect your drawing environment. The status bar
provides quick access to some of the most commonly used drawing tools. You can toggle settings such as grid, snap, polar
tracking, and object snap.
➢ Drawing window – Allows you to set up a drawing to your preferences.
➢ Navigation bar – Is a user interface element where you can access both unified and product-specific navigation tools.
➢ ViewCube – Is a navigation tool that is displayed when you are working in 2D model space or 3D visual style. With ViewCube,
you can switch between standard and isometric views. The ViewCube is a persistent, clickable and draggable interface that
you use to switch between standard and isometric views of your model.
➢ File Tab – Provide an easy way for you to access all the open drawings in the application. The file tab usually displays the full
name of the file. Clicking the plus sign (+) on the right end of the file tabs bar opens a new drawing based on the specified
template file used by the QNEW command.
➢ Ribbon – Is the central location for accessing commands in AutoCAD Architecture toolset. The ribbon is organized into tabs
that reflect common tasks in the drawing process.
➢ Quick access toolbar – Is a central location where you can easily get to the AutoCAD and Land F/X tools you use most.
Located below the ribbons, the Quick Access toolbar is a space where you can store buttons for tools of your choice.
