2011 Satellite Symposium Form
The 22nd Annual Clinical Meeting of the American Academy of Pain Management will be held
at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada, from September 20-23, 2011. Satellite symposium
proposals are now being accepted. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner slots on September 21 and
September 22 are available. The allotted time is 90 minutes. Once approved, the slots will
be allocated on a first come, first served basis. The Academy does not run more than one
symposium at a particular time.
This proposal is due by April 15, 2011. The administrative fee for a satellite symposium at
the 2011 meeting is $35,000. The proposal is subject to final approval by the Academy’s
Education Advisory and Review Committee. The Academy reserves the right to approve all
educational content to make sure it is consistent with our mission and is in compliance with
ACCME criteria. All proposals must be free of commercial bias and must demonstrate
scientific rigor.
Audiovisual arrangements can be made with the Academy’s vendor, or with a vendor of
your choosing.

The American Academy of Pain Management (the Academy) is a nonprofit organization that
educates clinicians about pain and its management through an integrative interdisciplinary
approach. The organization has approximately 5,000 members who represent a variety of
disciplines, including medicine, nursing, psychology, and physical therapy. The table below
contains a breakdown of the membership by discipline:
The Academy is responsible for a quarterly magazine, The Pain Practitioner; a current
awareness service, Pain Management News and Research; and a website which contains
opportunities for online continuing education credit, www.aapainmanage.org. The Academy
has developed the Pain Program Accreditation process in accordance with current standards
of quality treatment in pain management. The Academy also does substantial advocacy
work to make clinicians, legislators, and regulators aware of the latest developments in
pain.

The Annual Clinical Meeting is the Academy’s primary educational offering. The Academy is
accredited by the ACCME and the APA, and seeks accreditation for several other disciplines.
In addition to the more than 50 clinical presentations, the meeting includes poster sessions,
networking opportunities, and an awards presentation.
The meeting draws nearly 1000 attendees. A breakdown of physician subspecialties, based
on surveys from 390 meeting attendees at the 2008 meeting, is below:
