JerryMarie Power English

Baguio, Cordillera Administrative Region

Dear Ma'am/Sir

Greetings!
I have come across your job hiring post in ph.jora.com and was instantly motivated to be part of your
ESL family. To introduce myself briefly, I wrote an overview of my education and work background
which may help you in knowing me better. To see the summary of my qualifications, I have also
attached my resume In this file.

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE

It is a common knowledge that teaching English to student who has little to no-understanding of the
target language can be challenging. Moreover, factors such as culture and language barriers proves
to be a serious hindrance to the success of language learning. While being a student may spark
some doubts on my capabilities to be a reliable English teacher, but I believe that being so is my
unique advantage.

By being a student and an ESL teacher at the same time, it allows me to look at language learning
from the perspective of the teacher and the position of the student. By having a fresher
understanding of the language difficulties, I can provide an effective and relatable advice that will
help my students overcome their language problems. Moreover, being a student does not
necessarily mean having less experience or being under-qualified. The K to 12 program that I have
undergone have made innovations in the education curriculum. Computer and software literacy was
part of those improved program that I was able to do in the STEM track. Hence, the extended years
in high-school did not only impart the best high-school memories with me it also gave me the
opportunity to be more college ready.

WORK EXPERIENCE

During my time as an ESL teacher in Acadsoc, I was able to teach English to a diverse set of
students. There, I realized the real struggle of making sure that the student is actively engaging with
the course material I’m teaching. It was a lot of work, considering that each student has different
language goals, different areas of weaknesses and different areas of interests. However, I learned
that no matter how difficult it may seem to connect with them (especially if the student doesn’t show
a tinge of interest in the subject) there are always effective steps to hook them in the lesson.
Getting the attention of a young student (that is 12 years old an below) for 25 minutes straight is
impossible. In my experience, the average attention span they are willing to give the lesson before
pursuing other unrelated activities was five minutes. To prevent this from happening, I make sure
to insert at-least a 30-second video presentation (that was provided by the company) every five
minutes of discussion. In contrary to the energetic learning atmosphere created for younger
students, English lessons to intermediate level learners, which are teens and adults, are much
calmer. Lessons in this category usually revolves around vocabulary, grammar and sentence
structures which can sound intimidating to beginners. Hence, making the flow of the lesson light
and friendly is important to eliminate the pressure in studying these topics. To make it much
convenient to learners, I always ask their previous lesson before starting my topic. Knowing how to
connect the old lesson to the new lesson is a great way to strengthen their grasp of the English
language. Moreover, initiating small-talk with the students before the proper lesson is the best
chance to create an easy learning atmosphere.

These experiences, which I have shared, were the main drivers that made me grow as a language
teacher. Meeting students who are excited, driven, and interested to learn something new inspired
me to become a better instructor. As a student and as a teacher, I’m always compelled to the idea
of providing quality teaching service to all. With JerryMarie Power English I believe I can achieve
that ideal while helping learners achieve their goals as well. By reading this far in my application
letter, I’m deeply grateful for endowing me your time. Thank you so much for giving me the
opportunity to share my experiences, I hope my experiences sufficed your qualifications. I’m
excited to hear from you soon!

Sincerely,
Allisa Mae Suerte Felipe
