Justice Coalition
:: The draft of Oakland’s Energy and Climate Action Plan (ECAP) was
released last week. Many of the food policy recommendations submitted
by CFJC and allies were included, but we need stronger language to
make these policies meaningful. There are two important ways to take
action:
:: Taking Root, 5th National Farm to Cafeteria Conference will take place
from May 17-19 in Detroit, MI. For more information, or to register, go to:

:: On August 16–18, 2010, the Center for Ecoliteracy will host a three-day
seminar for educators, “Sustainability Education: Connecting Art, Science,
and Design,” in Berkeley. Participants will explore how to improve science
education through art, use design as a form of critical thinking, and
employ strategies for applying bio-inspired design to student projects. For

Take Action
:: LA Hunger Action Day – 6/2/10 -- at the City Hall Lawn on Spring Street
between 1st and Temple at 4:30pm. Nearly two million people in LA rely on
public benefits or emergency food to get sufficient nutrition. In 2009, this
event resulted in the passage of County legislation to ease food stamp
access for families with kids and the introduction of an LA City ordinance
requiring the city to donate surplus food from its facilities. This year we will
educate officials and the public about consequences of budget cuts to
nutrition programs, especially for kids and seniors. For more information,
call 213 388 8228.
