Rules of the competition
1. Young
composers
are
invited
to
submit
an
accompanied
(organ)
or
unaccompanied
choral
composition
of
up
to
6
minutes
in
length.
2. The
composition
should
have
been
specifically
created
for
the
2016
Sanders
Society
competition.
Any
previously-‐composed
composition
is
liable
to
disqualification.
3. The
competition
is
open
to
composers
under
the
age
of
30
years
on
11th
March
2016
4. Each
composer
may
submit
only
one
entry.
5. Scoring:
SATB
choir;
maximum
division
is
two
per
part
(SSAATTBB,
or
double
choir)
6. The
text
of
the
composition
may
either
be
taken
from
the
Book
of
Psalms
or
a
public
domain
source.
It
must
be
out
of
copyright
(or
written
by
the
composer)
and
suitable
for
inclusion
in
a
Christian
act
of
worship.
The
final
decision
of
suitability
rests
with
the
judging
panel.
7. The
judges
will
be
looking
for
entries
which
might
find
a
regular
place
in
the
repertoire
of
cathedral
-‐
type
choirs,
which
would
be
rewarding
and
stimulating
both
for
singers
and
listeners
and
which
would
fit
well
into
a
liturgical
context.
Entrants
will
want
to
explore
the
special
sound,
vocal
range
and
technical
accomplishment
of
such
choirs
but
should
also
be
aware
of
some
constraints.
Choirs
vary
in
size
and
composition
and
all
operate
within
a
limited
rehearsal
schedule.
A
practical
approach
is
therefore
advisable.
8. Compositions
must
not
bear
the
name
of
the
composer.
9. Entrants
must
complete
SECTION
A
of
the
application
form
which
will
not
be
seen
by
the
judges,
as
well
SECTION
B.
10. All
entries
must
be
computer-‐processed
(Sibelius,
Finale,
etc)
or
handwritten
in
black
ink
to
the
highest
standard.
11. If
unaccompanied,
all
scores
must
include
a
piano
reduction
at
the
foot
of
each
system
.
12. All
entrants
must
provide
a
short
commentary
suitable
for
use
as
a
programme
note.

13. Composition
scores
should
be
anonymous,
bearing
only
a
unique
5-‐figure
identifying
number
on
the
top
right-‐hand
corner
of
each
page;
the
application
form
bearing
the
entrant’s
name
and
contact
details
