Fast Rescue Boat

When starting the engine, let it idle for a few seconds before engaging gear. Engage forward gear by pushing the throttle/gear lever forward and increase speed by pushing further; maximum speed reached when lever stops. Reverse is engaged by pulling the lever back and increasing speed by continuing to pull. The dead man switch stops the engine if the operator is separated from the control station to prevent uncontrolled operation. A battery charger inside the central console charges the batteries when docked by converting 42V AC supply to 12V DC.

Engine operation

When the engine has started, leave the engine running at idle for a few seconds before engaging
gear.
When the engine is running, a steady stream of water from rear end of the bottom cowl indicates
normal cooling water-pump operation.
Throttle / shifting gears
Forward gear
Push combined gear / throttle lever forward, away from yourself; to select forward gear. To
increase speed, continue to push the lever forward. When it stops, the engine is running at
maximum forward speed.
NOTE :-
Engine must be running at idle speed before attempting to shift gear.
Shift gears with a firm, quick motion to avoid “gear chatter”.
Reverse gear
Pull combined gear / throttle lever toward yourself to select reverse gear. To increase backward
speed, continue to pull lever to acquire the ideal speed.
NOTE :-
Exercise care when operating in reverse gear. Do not operate engine at
high speed when in reverse. Full throttle may not be accessible in the
reverse gear.
Stopping the engine (normal)
Idle engine and shift to neutral. After high speed running, leave engine to cool down at idle
speed for 1 to 2 minutes. Turn ignition key anti-clockwise to “off” position, to stop engines.
Stopping the engine (emergency)
In an emergency the engine can be stopped at any speed, in or out of gear. This is done by
pulling loose the lanyard attached to the dead man switch. This will cause the engine to stop
immediately.
NOTE :-
1- Activation of the dead man switch at high speed will cause an immediate
deceleration of the boat, therefore all passengers should remain seated at
all times especially when the boat is proceeding with speed.
2- After stopping the engine, close the air vent screw on the tank cap.
Disconnect the fuel connector of the engine side.
Dead man switch
The purpose of the dead man switch is to stop the engine when the operator leaves his control
station either accidentally by falling into the boat or by falling or being ejected overboard.
The dead man switch consists of a lanyard with clip at both ends. One end is secured to the
operator of the boat and the other end is fastened to the run / off switch on the engine control
box. If the operator is away from his position the lanyard automatically turns the switch to the
“off” position thus stopping the engine.
NOTE :-
Ensure to connect the emergency stop hook to your waist or clothing. The
engine will shut down if the hook’s line becomes disconnected from the engine.
Battery charger
Inside the central console is a battery charger for charging the batteries when the rescue boat is
docked onboard the ship. Power is supplied to the charger via the quick disconnect plug located
on the port side of the central console. Supplied current at 42V AC is converted by the battery
charger to 12V DC charging both of the batteries. Before starting the engine, disconnect the
42V AC supply.
