The H.G. Infra Engineering Limited- project is Six Lanning and Strengthening of new NH-248A from existing
Km. 11+682 to Existing Km 24+400 in the State of Haryana under NHDP phase-4 on hybrid annuity mode. Pile
foundations of 1200mm dia and 23m depth with a designed capacity of ------------00.0000000 MT. This report
presents the results of the Initial pile vertical load test with anchor method conducted on at Major Structure at
project to monitor the behavior and settlement of the pile along with safe load calculation.
2.0 METHODOLOGY
The testing of the pile was done as per I.S.2911 part-iv, using reaction pile method arrangement for anchor test
by maintain load method. The Compression load shall be applied to the pile top by means of a hydraulic jack
against suitable load frame which is capable of providing reaction and settlement is recorded by suitable dial
gauges. Pile head was chipped cut off to horizontal plane, projecting steel shall be cut or bent and top finished
smooth and leveled with material as specified to give a plane surface which is normal to the axis of the pile. A
bearing plate with a hole at the center was placed on the head of pile for the jackets to rest. A proper loading
arrangement platform was installed as specified. It was ensured that when the hydraulic jack and load
measuring device are mounted on pile head the whole system will be stable on the maximum specified load
The anchor method load was 25% more than the test load. For single pile four dial gauges shall be fixed to the
pile and be equidistant from the pile axis having 0.01mm sensitivity. The test is carried out by applying a series
of downward incremental load (25% of safe load on pile). In this method application of increment of test load
and taking of measurement or displacement in each stage is maintained till the rate of displacement is either
0.1mm in first 30 minutes or 0.2mm in first one hour or 2 hours, whichever occurs first. The test load is
maintained for 24 hours. After completion of 24 hrs with test load, load is decreased in equivalent each
increment loads after every 15 min. Rebounds reading were taken immediately after unloading and 30 min later
for each stage of decrement.
Initial Pile Load Test Report
______________________________________________________
Safe load on single pile for initial test is least of the following;
2/3rd Load at which the total displacement attains value of 12 mm safe load should be corresponding to
total displacement permissible.
50% of the final load at which the total displacement attains equal to 10% pile dia meter.
2.5 OBSERVATION
On application of 2.5 times the design load, the gross displacement of the pile is 3.24 mm and net displacement
is 3.635 mm. The sheet of load settlement relationship, load displacement graph and the field readings are
attached as annexure.
4.0 CONCLUSION
Based on the above observation and as per IS-2911 part-4, the safe operational load carrying capacity of the
tested piles is 118.49MT.
