WWW.M: 2.2. A Number of Moment-Curvature Analyses Were Carried Out For Circular Concrete Sections

Moment-curvature analyses were conducted on circular concrete columns with varying axial load and reinforcement ratios. The results, including computed moment-curvature curves and bilinear approximations, are shown in Figures 2.3 and 2.4. Figure 2.3 displays the initial portions of the moment-curvature curves to clearly identify the yield region. Figure 2.4 was derived from the bilinear approximations in Figure 2.3 and shows the dimensionless nominal moment and yield curvature.

2.2.

A number of moment-curvature analyses were carried out for circular concrete sections
with D = 6.55 ft (≈2.0m), fc' =5 ksi (≈35MPa), and varying levels of axial load (Nu/fc'Ag) and
flexural reinforcement ratios (ρl). Selected results (computed Μ-φ curves and bilinear
approximations) are shown in Fig. 2.3. Note that only the initial part of the M-φ curves has been
included to enable the region up to, and immediately after yield, to be clearly identified. The
dimensionless plots of nominal moment Mn and yield curvature φy shown in Fig. 2.4 were
derived using the bilinear moment-curvature plots of Fig. 2.3.
