Reveal Selection

Concept: Masking is used to


reveal or hide the specific portion
of the image. We will learn the first,
very basic type of masking
technique in this lesson.

1. Open Photoshop. Open Image

Concept
Image is generally saved at 72 PPI
resolution because monitor
displays the image with actual size
on the screen at 72 PPI. The
monitor resolution is considered 72
DPI in general. If the image is
scanned at 144 PPI, it will be
displayed with double size
because 72 x 72 pixels will fit in 1
inch. Rest of the 72 x 72 pixels will
occupy double space. The result is
obvious, the double size of the
original image.

1. Open Photoshop. Open an


image with 72 PPI resolution.

standard mode. This will convert
quick mask into selection. Select
white color for background.

Creating : Textures
In this tutorial, we will learn to create a nice
looking texture.
Create a new file of 300 x 300 pixel. Set the
foreground color to #BB9800 and background to
#FFD039 . Select linear gradient to fill the canvas.
As you can see in previous image, there are
scratches remained in the face, specially in
forehead. We will remove that and all other
scratches from the picture by using Smart Blur
Filter. To use smart blur filter, go to
filter>blur>Smart Blur and experiment with the
amount. I assure you that smart blur filter will
work very smart :)

Create a new layer by pressing shift+control+n.


Press "D" to regain the default black & white color.
Again select linear gradient and fill the layer with
it.

Now, go to filter>pixelate>mosaic and apply these


values:-
