UE18EE325 - Unit1 - Class2 - General Input Output Configuration

The document discusses the general configuration of measurement systems. It describes the key components as the measurand or input, a standard for comparison, and an output that is read after comparing the input to the standard. There are different types of inputs including desired inputs that the system is designed to measure, interfering inputs that the system becomes unintentionally sensitive to, and modifying inputs that can change the input-output relationships of desired and interfering inputs. The document provides a diagram illustrating how modifying inputs can impact the desired and interference gains.

SENSORS & ACTUATORS
General Input Output Configuration

❖ The process of measurement is concerned with the input

which is compared with a standard resulting in some input.

❖ The different parts in this system are:

1. Measurand
2. Standard
3. Output

❖ Measurand/Input:
It is a fundamental quantity such as length, mass and time or a
derived quantity like speed, velocity, acceleration, power, etc.
or a qualitative condition like color brightness, roughness, etc.

❖ The Standard:
For consistent quantitative comparison of physical parameters,
certain established standard can be used. This needs to be
selected first before comparing.

3. The Output
❖ The output is read out by the observer after comparing
the object with a quantity of same kind, which is known as
the standard.

TYPES OF INPUTS:
● Desired Inputs
Quantities for which the instrument is specifically designed to
measure and respond.

● Interfering Inputs
Represents quantities to which an instrument or a
measurement system becomes unintentionally sensitive

• Modifying Inputs
Inputs which causes a change in input-output relationships
for either desired inputs or interfering inputs or both.
Thus, a modifying input is an input that modifies GD(Desired
Input gain) and/or GI(Interference Gain). The symbols
GMD(modified desired Input gain) & GI represent the specific
manner in which rM affects GD and GI respectively.
