Rationals ℚ

In mathematics, a rational number is a number that can

be expressed as the fraction:

𝒑
𝒒

• The numerator is 𝑝
• The denominator is 𝑞 (MUST be different to
zero).
¡¡¡Some properties of integers!!!

❖ THEY ARE NOT COUNTABLE

For example, in ℕ and ℤ you can count.

You can count from 1 to 17

You can count from −11 to 3
1 6
Can you count from to ?
2 8

❖ FRACTIONS DON’T HAVE SUCCESIVE NUMBERS

For example, in ℕ and ℤ you can know the next number
of any number.

The next number of 3 is 4

The next number of 251 is 252
The next number of −32 is −31
1
What is the next number of ?
2
Proper and improper fractions
Fractions can be classified as either proper or improper
based on the numerator and denominator.

❖ PROPER FRACTIONS
A proper fraction is a fraction were the numerator is less
than the denominator.
