The document discusses the capacity and configurations of different radio node types including baseband units, DUs, and RBS. It provides details on the subscriber capacity, resources shared, and factors that impact the capacity for each type.

The different radio node types discussed are baseband units (5212, 6303, 6620, 5216, 6630, 6502), DUs (DUS 31, DUS 41), and RBS (RBS 6501).

The main factors that determine the capacity of each radio node type include the number of cells, connected users, data radio bearers, VoLTE users, scheduling entities per TTI, PUCCH PRB pairs, peak throughput, antenna bandwidth, and carrier branches. The configuration and system bandwidth also impact capacity.

Baseband Radio Node Capacity

1 Baseband Radio Node Capacity

The following sections describe the subscriber capacity for each Radio Node
type.

When the subscriber capacity is expressed in terms of connected User

Equipment (UE), a connected UE is defined as a UE in the 3GPP-defined
state RRC_CONNECTED. The maximum allowed number of simultaneous users
on a particular node is controlled by a connected user capacity license, and
actual use can be tracked using License and Resource Use Indicators. More
information can be found in Connected Users.

The maximum number of VoIP users that can be supported depends on Radio
Node type, the system bandwidth, and RF conditions. Refer to the VoIP
Dimensioning document for background.

Resources that are pooled and shared within a Baseband unit are:
• Cells

• Connected Users (CU)

• Data Radio Bearers (DRB)

• Voice over LTE (VoLTE) users

• Scheduling Entities per TTI (SE/TTI)

• PUCCH PRB Pairs

• Peak throughput

• Antenna Bandwidth (ABW)

• Carrier branches

Maximum capacity is dependent on configuration. The data stated here, such

as maximum connected users and peak throughput, is achievable individually,
but not necessarily all at once. The figures refer to a configuration with a
maximum cell range of 15 km, unless otherwise stated.

Supported Capacity and Configurations

2 DU Radio Node Capacity

The following sections describe the subscriber capacity for each Radio Node
type.

The capacity figures stated here may take future capacity upgrades into
consideration. For the supported capacity in the current release, see the
Network Impact Report.

Throughput is pooled and shared between the DUs in a Multi-DU Radio Node
configuration. The transport link is terminated in Primary DU and will be the
limiting factor in a Multi-DU configuration.

Resources that are pooled and shared within a DU are:

• Cells

• Connected Users (CU)

• Data Radio Bearers (DRB)

• Voice over LTE (VoLTE) users

• Scheduling Entities per TTI (SE/TTI)

• PUCCH PRB Pairs

• Peak throughput

• Antenna Bandwidth (ABW)

• Carrier branches

Maximum capacity is dependent on configuration. The data stated here, such

as maximum connected users and peak throughput, is achievable individually,
but not necessarily all at once. The figures refer to a configuration with a
maximum cell range of 15 km, unless otherwise stated.

3 Restriction on Number of MO Instances

Related to External Cells and Cell
Relations

There is a system limit which affects the number of MO instances related to

external cells and cell relations in the eNodeB. It ensures that internal memory
usage does not affect stability of the eNodeB.
When the system limit for external cells and cell relations is reached, further
MO creations are rejected. The current MO memory footprint from all types of
MO instances of type external cell and cell relation is continuously calculated.
The current MO memory footprint is observed by a PM counter,
pmMoFootprintMax. When this PM counter reaches 80% of the system limit, it
is recommended to re-dimension the eNodeB to decrease the number of
necessary MO instances in the node.

The system limit is defined as a total weight which reflects amount of memory
consumed by all MO instances related to external cells and relations. Its
values are as follows:

• 8000 for Baseband 5216 and 6630

• 6500 for Baseband 5212, 6303, 6620 and DUS 41

• 4400 for RBS 6501 and DUS 31
