Problem 2. (10 points) In a balanced three-phase circuit the Voltage Vab is 364.4<0◦ V. Determine all the
voltags and the currents in a Y-connected load having ZL = 20<30◦ Ω. Assume that the phase sequence is
abc.
Problem 3. (10 points) A 3-phase, star-connected system with 230 V between each phase and neutral has
resistance of 8,10 and 20 Ω respectively in three phases as shown in figure below.
• Calculate:
Problem 4. (10 points) A star connected three phase alternator supplies a delta connected load. The
impedance of each load branch is 8+j6 Ω. The line voltage is 230 V.
• Determine:
1
– Power factor of the load.
– Reactive power of the load.
Problem 5. (10 points) A 3-wire, 3-phase supply feeds a load consisting of three equal resistors. By how
much is the load reduced if one of the resistors be removed ?
• When:
Problem 6. (10 points) Each phase of a star-connected load consists of a resistance of 100 Ω in parallel
with a capacitance 31.8 uF. Calculate the line current, power absorbed, total kVA and power factor of the
load when connected to a 416 V, 3-phase, 4-wire 50 Hz supply.
Problem 7. (10 points) A balanced star-connected load of (8+j6) Ω per phase is connected to a 3-phase,
230 V, 50 Hz supply. Find the line current, power factor, volt-amperes and reactive power. Draw the phasor
diagram for currents and voltages as well.
Problem 8. (10 points) Three loads 31+j59, 30-j40 and 80+j60 are connected in delta to a 3-phase, 200
V supply. Find the phase currents, line currents and power. If the phase sequence is reversed, would your
answer change? Explain.
Problem 9. (20 points) Solve the end problems: 2.1-2.31, 2.40-2.52 from the chapter on ’polyphase cir-
cuits’. You can download the chapter on ’Polyphase Circuits using the link http://www.piazza.com/class_
