Lesson 5 to 6 Assessment
Philippine History
October 17, 2020
o What are your thoughts about the Martial Law and how did such event become one of
the most notable events in Philippine History?
- The Martial Law during Former President Ferdinand E. Marcos is an event in history that
the Filipinos will never forget, as it was the time when we were oppressed by our own.
The people with authority abused their power, indulged in self-interests, neglected their
duties, and committed heinous crimes such as tax evasion and smuggling. The original
purpose for Martial Law was for emergencies where civil forces are overwhelmed, or in
an occupied territory. Despite its past corrupted misuse, I don't view Martial Law as
something to be afraid of, as the one who manages it is the deciding factor of whether it
will be good or bad.
o What is the concept of democracy and what are your thoughts about the notion that
democracy was suppressed during Martial law? If you agree, do you really think that the
Aquino administration brought back the rights that we were once deprived?
- Democracy rests upon the principle of majority rule and individual rights. The people are
given the freedom to choose the leaders they deemed fit for the administrative
positions that governs the country they are home to. Democracy provided the rights we
were deprived of from the corrupted Martial Law. Through the power of the people and
the Aquino administration, we once again were able to breathe peacefully, without fear,
in our beloved country.
o During the ff. colonial periods, which do you think has the most influence in our culture?
a. Spanish Era b. US Period c. Japanese Period
- The Spanish Colonial Period.
o Cite some advantages and disadvantages that colonization has brought.
- Advantages. Colonization brought forth diversity in almost every area. From the way
one thinks, to delicacies, clothing, beliefs, agriculture, and more. It molded an
environment open to change and differences. Whether we like it or not, it widened the
horizons of the people to countless possibilities, vast knowledge, and painted one's life
with a greater variety of colors.
- Disadvantages. It created a barrier between people of different standings, may it be
from status, ancestors, or beliefs. Differences may bring forth diversity, but it does not
always bring harmony.
o Would you prefer a culture that is inherently ours than a diverse one? Reasons.
- Consistency is good, but it isn't great either. A culture that is ours does contribute to the
roots of our own kin, but it will inevitably be suffocating. Accepting diversity doesn't
mean we will forget our origins, it only means that we are open to the possibilities of
something new. I view diversity not as a self-destructive path, but as an opportunity to
new experiences and a wider view of the world.
o Did the Philippines really attain liberality after the war?
- Technically, yes.
o State your NAME AND GROUP.
- Name: Kimberly Pantoja
Group: Kenrick Nial Tandayag, Krishia Blair Parrilla, Jessa Mae Palen
