I. REMARKS FOR HANDLING OF PARTS

1. Circuit block

( 1) How to stock
Keep the circuit block in a tin foil pack to avoid from being damaged by static electricity.

(2) How to handle

While handling the circuit block alone, be sure to use the
static electricity protector S-830, and fingercots.

(3) Why the circuit block must be protected from static o Grounding wire
electricity.
As the C-MOS- LS I is assembled in the circuit block, the
more the watch is provided with various functions, (the Ground

watch functions become more complicated) the more

elements of the IC are required, and the circuit block
becomes sensitive to static electricity. Static electricity protector S-830

2. Liquid crystal panel

(1) Where to stock

Keep the liquid crystal panel in a dark place with low
humidity and low temperature to maintain the required
quality.
The liquid crystal panel for replacement is packed in tin
foil to avoid direct sunlight and humidity.

(2) How to handle the liquid crystal panel

The liquid crystal ·is sealed in between two thin galss
plates (sheets) which are exactly parallel. Don't push
hard on the glass surface or the glasses will not be parallel
and, there will be iridescent circles.

(3) Liquid crystal panel life

The life of the liquid crystal panel of the SE IKO Digital
Quartz Watch is more than 7 years.

II. CLEANING

When cleaning the parts of the digital quartz watch, follow the procedures below:
Note: Please note that all the calibres are not provided with all the parts listed below. Find the specific parts of the
calibre and clean them by following the procedures below.

• Be sure to clean only stains on the conductive portions (circuit block, etc.) with a cloth moistened with benzine or
alcohol and dry them with warm air.
• Wipe off dust and fluffy matter with a brush.
• Be careful not to make scratches on the alminium evaporated film of the reflecting mirror.

3. Cleaning conditions

Be sure to clean the parts in a room that is well ventilated. Do not leave the container of the cleaning solution un
capped for hours in a poor ventilated room.
The vapor of the cleaning solutions is slightly toxic. Prolonged breathing of the vapor may induce drowsiness, pro
voke nausea or make you feel dizzy.

IV. AFTER-SALE SERVICING INSTRUMENTS AND TOOLS

1. Types of after-sale servicing instruments and tools

The following after-sale servicing instruments and tools are necessary for checking and adjustment of SE IKO
Quartz Watches.

(1) Measuring instruments

• Quartz Tester (QT- 100, QT- 10, QT-77, QT-99)
Used to measure time accuracy (daily rate) and flow
of current from the circuit block to the liquid
crystal.

• Micro Test (MT-30, MT- 10, MT- 1011 )

Used to check current consumption and supply a
constant flow of voltage power.

• Volt-ohm-meter (S-83 1)
Used to check battery voltage, conductivity current
consumption and measuring resistance.
o I

21
• Microscope
Used for disassembling, reassembling, checking and
adjustment of the module.
Note: Use microscope of 10 ,....., 25 magnification.

(2) Tools

• Movement (module) holder

Used for disassembling and reassembling of the
module. Use the appropriate movement (module)
holder for each calibre.

• Bamboo or plastic tweezers

Used to handle the battery.

• SE IKO Static electricity protector S-830

Used to handle the module. It grounds the static

electricity.

• SE IKO Current Supplier S-833

Used to supply constant voltage power to chek
the electronic battery circuit block. When the bat
tery is removed from the watch, clamp the battery
with the current supplier and connect to the module.

Electro-magnetic/Electric-field
Detection Microphone

Procedure
CD Turn on the power switch.
® Put the plug of the Electro-magnetic/Electric-field
detection microphone into the input jack.
@ Set the Electro-magnetic/Electric-field detection
changeover to L C. ON.
@ Depress " LC D" button of the watch selection
switch.

@ Set the earphone plug into the earphone jack.

® Place the watch in the center (marked position) of
the microphone platform, so that the liquid crystal
panel side (glass side) touches the platform.
• Place the watch so that the month, day or date
digits side touches the marked position.
• The daily rate can not be measured if the glass is
contaminated with perspiration or grease, or if the
watch is in a vinyl bag.

23
(J) Put on the earphone and shift the watch or change
its position on the microphone platform until the
loudest watch signal is heard. The input indicator
will stay lit. Almost every watch can be measured
with the level adjuster at AUTO. If the input indi
cator blinks erratically or does not blink at all, turn
the knob so that the indicator stays lit.
@ Read the daily rate displayed. If the daily rate is
over the maximum value, it will not be displayed.

Other microphone used for Digital Ouartz watches

• Electric-field detection microphone
Used to measure the daily rate by picking up the liquid crystal driving signal through the liquid crystal panel.

• Ultrasonic microphone (US-32)

Measure the daily rate by picking up the frequency (32,768 Hz.) directly from the quartz crystal oscillator.

Power switch

Read the following instructions (remarks) to measure the daily rate by using the ultrasonic microphone (US-32).
CD Be sure to check the battery voltage used with the ultrasonic microphone.
(If the battery voltage is low, the correct value can not be measured.)
Range to be used: DC 12V or 30V

24
Turn the power switch to " ON" side which connects the battery, and measure the battery voltage as shown in the
illustration below.

Results:

More than 7V: Normal

Less than 7V: Defective
Replace the battery with a new Probe black (-)
one.

® When it is difficult to measure the daily rate in a noisy place, cover the microphone with a carton as shown in the
illustration below.
( If the microphone picks up noise, the correct daily rate can not be measured.)
Cover the microphone with a carton.
Place a piece of sponge rubber to absorb vibration.

Cover the microphone with a carton.

Place a sponge rubber to

absorb vibration.

@ When the daily rate is measured by placing the module on the microphone, be sure to set the module so that its
crystal case touches the pin of censor.
Remarks:
It is impossible to measure the daily rate of digital quartz watches by the electro-magnetic detection microphone ex
cept the Cal. C359 A and A358A, etc. which are provided with the daily rate measuring function and the magnetism of
the speaker coil.
