According to the document: 1. The de-development framework aims to have rich countries reduce consumption and output to achieve prosperity, well-being and happiness, rather than constant economic growth. This would allow poorer countries to "catch up" instead of constantly trying to "catch down" to wealthier economies. 2. Traditional development frameworks see more growth as always improving lives, but de-development removes these negative outcomes by focusing on quality of life over quantity of production and consumption. 3. Hickel argues that rich countries can achieve longevity through de-developing by choosing quality over quantity and reducing consumption to maintain well-being.
