IoT in MINING INDUSTRY- COST
OPTIMAZTION IMPROVED
PRODUCTIVITY AND SAFETY
INTRODUCTION
The Internet of things (IoT) is the extension of Internet connectivity into
physical devices and everyday objects. They are embedded with
electronics, Internet connectivity and other forms of hardware. These
devices can communicate and interact with others over the Internet and
they can be remotely monitored and controlled.
In the mining industry, IoT can be used as a means of achieving cost
and productivity optimization, improving safety measures and developing
their artificial intelligence needs
OBJECTIVES
Cost optimization & improved productivity-
Through the implementation of sensors on mining equipment and
systems that monitor the equipment and its performance. Using these
large chunks of data to discover more cost-efficient ways of running
operations and also reduce overall operational time.
Ensuring safety of people and equipment-
By monitoring ventilation and toxicity levels inside underground mines
with the help of IoT on a real-time basis. It enables faster and more
efficient evacuations or safety drills.
Improved and fast-decision making-
The mining industry faces emergencies almost every hour with a high
degree of unpredictability. IoT helps in balancing situations and in
making the right decisions in situations where several aspects will be
active at the same time to shift everyday operations to algorithms.
BACKGROUND
Mining is the process of acquiring minerals from mines. In addition to the
resource development, it has many economic, social, and environmental
aspects. The mining industry has been facing significant problems lately
and requires a constant scope of improvement. Low commodity prices,
increased environmental requirements, workers and equipment safety
and greater haulage distances are all pressuring profitability. Several
technologies are available or are under development to help mining
companies face these challenges. Some have been around for years but
they are only just becoming economical enough to get declined by the
authorities. Increased mechanisation, optimised equipment and
productivity and real-time performance monitoring are only a few of the
initiatives. In the mining industry, IoT can be used as a means to tackle
all these problems. New perspectives are provided for IoT applications in
the field of mining Industry.
