3. How many grams of gas would be adsorbed per gram of a substance at 8 atm by assuming Freundlich
adsorption isotherm.

4. Total vapour pressure of mixture of 1 mole of volatile component A (Pº A = 100 mm Hg) and 3 mole of volatile
component B (PºB = 80 mm Hg) is 90 mm Hg. Find out nature of solution and sign of entropy of solution
5. How long a current of 2A has to be passed through a solution of AgNO 3 to coat a metal surface of 80cm2 with
5m thick layer? Density of silver = 10.8g/cm 3.
6. The conductivity of 0.20 M solution of KCl at 298 K is 0.0248 S cm–1. Calculate its molar conductivity.

7. A first order reaction has a rate constant 1.15 ×103 s1 . How long will 5 g this reactant takes to
reduce to 3 g?
8. In the following reaction 2H2O2 (aq)  2H2O( ) + O2 (g) rate of formation of O2 is 36 g min–1 ,
(a) What is rate of formation of H2O? (b) What is rate of disappearance of H2O2?

SECTION – C (Attempt and 5 x 5 = 25 Marks)


9. Twenty grams of a solute are added to 100 g of water at 25ºC. The vapour pressure of pure water is 23.76
mmHg; the vapour pressure of the solution is 22.41 Torr.
(a) Calculate the molar mass of the solute.
(b) What mass of this solute is required in 100 g of water to reduce the vapour pressure to one-half the value
for pure water ?

What is the difference between physical adsorption and chemisorption ?
10. The resistance of a M/10 KCl solution in 245 ohms. Calculate the specific conductance and the molar
conductance of the solution if the electrodes in the cell are 4 cm apart and each having an area of 7.0 sq. cm.
11. If N2 gas is bubbled through water at 293 K, how many millimoles of N 2 gas would dissolve in 1 litre of water, if
N2 exerts a partial pressure of 0.987 bar. Given that Henry's law constant for N 2 at 293 K is 76.48 kbar.
12. 1 g of charcoal adsorbs 100 mL of 0.5 M CH3COOH to form mono layer and there by the molarity of CH 3COOH
reduces to 0.49 M. Calculate the surface area of the charcoal adsorbed by each molecule of CH 3COOH.

Surface area of charcoal = 3.01 × 102 m2/g.


13. Calculate the emf of the cell in which the following reaction takes place:
Ni(s)+2Ag+ (0.002 M)  Ni2+(0.160 M)+2Ag(s) Given that = Eo (cell)1.05 V.
14. The rate of the chemical reaction doubles for an increase of 10 K in absolute temperature from 298 K.
Calculate Ea.

16. Calculate the mass of ascorbic acid (Vitamin C, C6H8O6) to be dissolved in 75 g of acetic acid to lower its
melting point by 1.5C. Kf = 3.9 kg mol–1.
