Direction: Read on the development and implementation of the K-12 curriculum in the
Philippines. Look for an example of a K to 12 curriculum guide. Base on your analysis, which
type of design has influenced the K-12 curriculum? Explain your answer. Provide at least five (5)
concrete and specific examples to support your answer.

The Curriculum Guide that is part of the K-12 program that I have chosen is ART (Grade 1 to
Grade 10). By reading the guide, I can say that the K-12 Curriculum is influenced by Learner-
centered design.

1. From what I've read on the Art curriculum guide, one of its specific learning competency
standard is for the students to be able to discuss pictures of localities where different cultural
communities live and understands that each group has distinct houses and practices. And this
aligns with what Learner-centered design is, since it intends to address the distinct learning
needs, interests, aspirations, or cultural backgrounds of individual students and groups of
students.

2. Another one of its learning competency is to create artworks using available media and
natural resources on local topics, issues, and concerns such as environmental advocacies
ecotourism, and economic and livelihood projects. Thus I consider it learner-centered design,
because it uses interactive strategies to engage the students and develop their abilities and
helps students develop skills such as decision making and problem solving, team work, and
presentation skills that are relevant to the current labor needs.

3. Also, one of the reasons why I consider it as learner centered curriculum is because most of
the goals or objectives stated there are designed for the teacher just to be a facilitator or coach
in the learning process.

4. The Curriculum guide for Art includes school project, environmental education, team
building, leadership training, and plenty more that is about problem solving. By having to solve
problem, the students practice learning rather than memorizing, thus it is Learner-centered.

Direction: Provide a lesson plan of your choice. You may download one, or ask a copy from a
teacher who is a friend or a relative. Find a partner and exchange lesson plans with each other.
Read the lesson plan carefully and answer the following questions.

1. Can you consider a lesson plan as a curriculum? Why?

I consider lesson plan as a curriculum. Since it is a specific example of a written curriculum. It is

a key plan that a teacher would use to organize the students’ learning.

2. What are the objectives of the lesson plan?

The following are the lesson plan's objectives:

A. Define 'tone' and 'mood' as it applies to literature

B. Identify examples of tone and mood in a work of literature
C. Analyze tone and mood in literature
D. Appreciate tone and mood in Literatures

3. What is the subject matter content?

Tone and Mood is the Lesson Plan's subject matter content. Tone is a manner, a feeling or
atmosphere the author has meant to set in the story or towards a subject while Mood is the
feeling or atmosphere perceived by the reader.

4. What strategies or methods of teaching are utilized?

The teaching method that is utilized is Cooperative Learning. Most of the activities in the lesson
plan promote the students to work together and learn from one another. Another strategy that
is utilized is the Inquiry-Guided Instruction. By asking questions and working together to solve
the problems, students get to be involved in the learning process.

5. What evaluation procedure is used?

As an evaluation, the teacher makes the students answer a written test(multiple choice) to
identify what they have learned.

6. Do the four elements fit or match one another? Explain.

I can say that the four elements do match perfectly. The execution of the discussion and
activities are in order. The goals of the lesson plan is clear, it is realistic and suitable for the
students' level.

7. In what elements of the lesson plan did you find some difficulties or weaknesses? Describe
the weaknesses or difficulties.

I think the last part of the lesson plan or the extended activity is a little weak, when the
teacher assigns each student a well-known short story and ask them to analyze its tone
and mood. I just think it's repetitive since in the previous activity, same assessment
process is already designed , although this one is for individual work.

8. Are there solutions to these conditions? What do you propose?

There is a solution of course. The teacher just has to think up of more creative and diverse
activities that does not have the same learning goals so that many learning opportunities would
take place.
