Before Covid-19, food insecurity was already rising globally with 22.4% of the world population affected in 2014 increasing to 25.9% in 2018. Covid-19 poses an additional threat to global food systems by exacerbating issues such as stunting and wasting among children as well as harming small-scale food producers who comprise 40-85% of food production in the developing world.
