fractions to lowest form.
(a) 0.6 (b) 2.5 (c) 1.0 (d) 3.8 (e) 13.7
(f) 21.2 (g) 6.4
6
Ans. (a) 0.6 =
10
Now, H.C.F. of 6 and 10 is 2.
6 6 ÷2 3
Thus, = =
10 10 ÷ 2 5
5 20 5 20 + 5 25
(b) 2.5 = 2 + = + = =
10 10 10 10 10
Now, H.C.F. of 25 and 10 is 5
25 25 ÷ 5 5
Thus, = =
10 10 ÷ 5 2
10
(c) 1.0 =

Now, H.C.F. of 10 and 10 is 10
10 10 ÷ 10 1
Thus, = = =1
10 10 ÷ 10 1
8 30 8 30 + 8 38
(d) 3.8 = 3 + = + = =
10 10 10 10 10

Q.7. Between which two whole numbers on the number line
are the given numbers lie? Which of these whole
numbers is nearer the number?

(a) 0.8 (b) 5.1 (c) 2.6 (d) 6.4

(e) 9.1 (f) 4.9

©
CBSEPracticalSkills.com 6 Edulabz International
©
CBSEPracticalSkills.com Edulabz International

Ans. (a) 0.8

The number 0.8 is more than 0 but less than 1, thus 0.8
lies between two whole numbers 0 and 1.
Now, 0.8 is greater than 0.5, thus the whole number 1 is
nearer the number 0.8.
(b) 5.1
The number 5.1 is more than 5 but less than 6, thus 5.1
lies between the two whole numbers 5 and 6.
Now, 5.1 is less than 5.5, thus the whole number 5 is
nearer the number 5.1.
(c) 2.6
The number 2.6 is more than 2 but less than 3, thus 2.6
lies between the two whole numbers 2 and 3.
Now, 2.6 is greater than 2.5, thus the whole number 3 is
nearer the number 2.6.
(d) 6.4
The number 6.4 is more than 6 but less than 7, thus 6.4
lies between the two whole numbers 6 and 7.
Now, 6.4 is less than 6.5, thus the whole number 6 is
nearer the number 6.4.
(e) 9.1
The number 9.1 is more than 9 but less than 10, thus 9.1
lies between the two whole numbers 9 and 10.
Now, 9.1 is less than 9.5, thus the whole number 9 is
nearer the number 9.1.
(f) 4.9
The number 4.9 is more than 4 but less than 5, thus 4.9
lies between two whole numbers 4 and 5.

Q.8. Show the following numbers on the number line.
(a) 0.2 (b) 1.9 (c) 1.1 (d) 2.5
Ans. (a) 0.2
We know that 0.2 is more than 0 but less than 1. There
are 2-tenths in it. Divide the unit length between 0 and
1 into 10 equal parts and take 2 parts as shown below :

(b) 1.9
We know that 1.9 is more than 1 but less than 2. There
are 9-tenths in it. Divide the unit length between 1 and
2 into 10 equal parts and take 9 parts as shown below :

(c) 1.1
We know that 1.1 is more than 1 but less than 2. There
is 1-tenth in it. Divide the unit length between 1 and 2
into 10 equal parts and take 1 part as shown below :

(d) 2.5
We know that 2.5 is more than 2 but less than 3. There
are 5-tenths in it. Divide the unit length between 2 and
3 into 10 equal parts and take 5 parts as shown below :

Q.9. Write the decimal number represented by the points A,

B, C, D on the given number line.

Ans. Point A : Since the unit length between 0 and 1 has been
divided into 10 equal parts and 8 parts have been taken by
point A, thus the decimal number represented by the point
A is 0.8.
Point B : Since the unit length between 1 and 2 has been
divided into 10 equal parts and 3 parts have been taken by
point B, thus the decimal number represented by the point B
is 1.3.
Point C : Since the unit length between 2 and 3 has been
divided into 10 equal parts and 2 parts have been taken by
point C, thus the decimal number represented by the point C
is 2.2.
Point D : Since the unit length between 2 and 3 has been
divided into 10 equal parts and 9 parts have been taken by
point D, thus the decimal number represented by the point
D is 2.9.
Q.10. (a) The length of Ramesh’s notebook is 9 cm 5 mm.
What will be its length in cm?
(b) The length of a young gram plant is 65 mm. Express
its length in cm.
Ans. (a) Length of Ramesh’s notebook = 9 cm 5 mm
= 9 cm + 5 mm
5

Ans. Rashid spent for Maths book

= Rs 35.75 3 5 . 7 5
Money spent for Science book + 3 2 . 6 0
= Rs 32.60 6 8 . 3 5
∴ Total amount spent by Rashid

Q.3. Radhika’s mother gave her Rs 10.50 and her father gave
her Rs 15.80, find the total amount given to Radhika by
the parents.
Ans. Money given by mother = Rs 10.50
Money given by father = Rs 15.80
Therefore, total amount given to Radhika by parents
= Rs. 10.50 + Rs. 15.80 = Rs 26.30

Rs 1 0 . 5 0
+ Rs 1 5 . 8 0
Rs 2 6 . 3 0

Q.4. Nasreen bought 3 m 20 cm cloth for her shirt and 2 m 5

⎛ 1 ⎞
⎜∵

5 . 2 5 m

Q.5. Naresh walked 2 km 35 m in the morning and 1 km 7 m

in the evening. How much distance did he walk in all?
Ans. Distance walked in the morning = 2 km 35 m
= 2 km + 35 m
35

1000
= (2 + 0.035) km
= 2.035 km
Distance walked in the evening = 1 km 7 m

Q.6. Sunita travelled 15 km 268 m by bus, 7 km 7 m by car
and 500 m on foot in order to reach her school. How far
is her school from her residence?
Ans. Distance travelled by bus = 15 km 268 m
= 15 km + 268 m
268
= 15 km + km
1000
= 15 km + 0.268 km
= 15.268 km
Distance travelled by car = 7 km 7 m

= 7 km + 0.007 km

Distance travelled on foot = 500 m

So, total distance traveled by Sunita =

1 5 . 2 6 8 km
7 . 0 0 7 km
+ . 5 0 0 km
2 2 . 7 7 5 km

Therefore, distance of school from Sunita’s residence

= 22.775 km
Q.7. Ravi purchased 5 kg 400 g rice, 2 kg 20 g sugar and 10
kg 850 g flour. Find the total weight of his purchases.
Ans. Weight of rice = 5 kg 400 g
= 5 kg + 400 g
400
= 5 kg + kg = 5 kg + 0.400 kg
1000

Weight of sugar = 2 kg 20 g = 2 kg + 20 g

20
= 2 kg + kg
1000

Weight of flour = 10 kg 850 g
= 10 kg + 850 g
850
= 10 kg + kg
1000
= 10 kg + 0.850 kg = 10.850 kg.
So, total weight of Rav's purchases =

5 . 4 0 0 kg
2 . 0 2 0 kg
+ 1 0 . 8 5 0 kg
1 8 . 2 7 0 kg

Therefore, total weight of Ravi’s purchases

Rs 2 0 . 7 5

(b) 202.54 m from 250 m

2 5 0 . 0 0 m

Thus, Rs 8.4 – Rs 5.36 = Rs 3.04

(d) 2.051 km from 5.206 km

Thus, 9.756 – 6.28 = 3.476

(b) 21.05 – 15.27
