EM Induction

The document discusses electromagnetic induction through three experiments. In the first experiment, a copper wire is moved vertically in a magnetic field, causing a reading on a connected ammeter due to induced current. Faster motion of the wire or upward motion increases the reading. The second experiment involves moving a magnet toward and away from a solenoid, inducing currents that create magnetic poles at the solenoid's ends. The third discusses Lenz's law and ways to increase the deflection angle of a galvanometer, such as using more coils in the solenoid, increasing the current or using a more sensitive galvanometer.

Electromagnet Induction

Paper November 2015

10 (a) Fig. 10.1 shows the gap between the N-pole and the S-pole of a magnet

The magnetic field in the gap is uniform.

On Fig. 10.1, draw four field lines to show the pattern and direction of the magnetic
field in the gap.
[2]
(b) Fig. 10.2 shows a horizontal copper wire PQ between two opposite magnetic
poles.

A circuit is made by connecting a sensitive digital ammeter between P and Q. The

wire PQ is then moved vertically downwards.

(i) State and explain what is observed on the ammeter.
