Class 8 Revision Assignment-NETWORKING

This document provides a revision assignment for Computer Science class 8. It contains questions about network topologies like star, mesh, ring and tree. It asks students to define protocol, describe functions of a hub/switch, and the purpose of a modem. Other questions differentiate between intranet and extranet, star and ring topologies. Students are asked to describe the functions of servers, WAPs and characteristics of WANs. Questions also cover client-server architecture, suitable topologies for connecting computers, advantages of networking, network security, and applications of LANs and WANs.

CLASS VIII
SUB: COMPUTER SCIENCE

1.

(a) Identify the topology in which each node is connected to every other node in the
network.

i. Mesh ii. Ring iii. Star iv. Tree

(b)The component used for wireless network

i. NIC ii. Ethernet cable iii. Access point iv.switch

( c) In Peer to Peer architecture

i. Only 1 or 2 computers have extra capabilities

ii. Only main computer has extra capabilities
iii. All nodes have equal capabilities
iv. None of the above
2. Define Protocol.
3. Write any 2 functions of hub/switch.
4. Write the purpose of MODEM in a network.
5. Differentiate between the following:
i. Intranet and Extranet
ii. Star and Ring Topology
6. Answer the following questions in brief:
a. State the function of the following devices while forming a network:
1. Server
2. WAP
b. State any two characteristics of WAN.
c. Explain Client Server architecture in detail.
7. Suggest a solution for the given problems:

Ganpati Enterprises wants to build a network to connect 15 computers in a small

area. They want that the network should be robust as well as it is easy to add a new
device. Which network topology is most suitable in this case?

1
8. What is networking? Write any two advantages of networking.
9. Write short note on Network Security.
10. Application based question:
A company wants to connect 100 computers in one building to
another two buildings 1Km away in the same premises. These
computers need to be connected to one another for a very high
speed connectivity using cables.
Keeping the above considerations in mind, answer the following
questions:
i. What type of network is formed when the computers in two buildings are
connected to form a network? LAN
ii. What sort of components should be used to connect the computers in these two
offices? Name them.
Hub/switch, Ethernet Cables, NIC
iii. Which topology will be more suitable if the company wants that the network
should be robust such that if any one connection in the network fails, the other
connections remain intact? TREE
iv. Which network architecture will you suggest if the access of all files and other
resources needs to be controlled from the central location? Client/Server
Architecture
11. Fill in the blanks :
a) ____________________ have a wireless antenna which enhances the communication
range of the radio signals.
b) Wi-fi stands for ____________________________
c) _________________are the computers that request access for data retrieval or storage.
d) In _______________topology, computers in a network are connected in a circular manner.
