This diagnostic should be completed by you and a family member.
Answer each question to best of your knowledge.
1. Write a definition of “patterns” in your own words. Have your family member write a
definition themselves on a separate piece of paper.
- My definition of pattern is that is a repetitive design or human-design
- My family’s definition of pattern is it is like our tiles in our house or home that has
patterns or design, or the repetition of designed pattern.

2. Discuss with your family member about each other’s definition in number 1. Which
words did you both use in the definition?
- We both use the word design and repetitive/repetition.

3. What is the difference between a pattern and a sequence?


- Patterns are usually set procedures or rules that can be followed, while Sequence is
usually a set numbers that are arranged in a particular order.
4. Where can one see patterns in nature? Make a list of anything that pops into your head.
- Trees and waves

5. List any other places or things that someone can see patterns.
-Pareidolia person that can see patterns in sky or clouds or in clowns face or even the in
mud. Like the aurora borealis where you can see or create a pattern in your head when
you see it.

6. Have your family member make a pattern below or on a separate paper. The pattern
can be of anything. (Attach any separate papers)

7. Explain the pattern above. What is happening?


- Repetitive design of circle and like oval shapes, it is like the design of tiles.
8. How do patterns relate to math? Be specific as possible?
- Patterns are sequences that repeat based on rules, where rules is a set way that can help you
solve problems in math.

9. How do patterns relate to art?


- Artists use patterns as decoration, as a technique of composition, or as an entire piece of
artwork.

10. Is there an importance to patterns? Why?


-  Patterns is important because it able us to identify recurring patterns allow us to make
educated guesses, assumptions, and hypothesis and it helps us develop important skills of
critical thinking and logic.

11. Does your family member use patterns at all in their work or daily lives? Explain.
- Yes, like doing house chores everyday.

12. Please explain anything that you would like to research or understand more about
patterns, nature, and art.
- I would like to research or understand more about studying patterns in nature because we
gain an appreciation and understanding of the world in which we live and how everything is
connected. And, by engaging Nature, we acquire a deeper connection with our spiritual self.
