Definition of Computer
An electronic device which is capable of receiving information data in a particular form and of
performing a sequence of operation in accordance with a predetermined but variable set of
procedural instructions program to produce a result in the form of information or signals.
The word computer comes from the word compute which means to calculate. A computer is also
called a data processor because it can store, process and retrieve data whenever desire.
Processing is a phenomenon in which a computer processes input and produce output. Without
processing the computer’s output would be the same as its input. With a computer you have
added element of processing which means doing something to the input so that you get
something else as output.
Mechanism of I /O processing
Input data is prepared in some convenient form for processing. The form will dependent on the
processing machine. For example when electronic computers are used the input data could be
recorded on any one of several types of input medium such as magnetic disks, taps so on.
Output
The results of proceeding processing step are collected. The particular form of output data
depends on the use of data for example output data may be pay checks for employees.
Data Processing
The activity of processing data using a computer is called data processing. There are three types
of data. Such as Captured data, manipulate data and output results. Information data is a raw
material used as input and information processed data of and as output of data processing.
