A. Speaking Skills Lesson

- We shouldn’t know first the idea of Accuracy and Fluency.

Accuracy – It is the correct usage of grammar.

Fluency – The ability to speak without stopping to think.

o Speaking activities comes in different forms but we have to categorized the three basic types:
1. Controlled Activity – The teacher helps the student in terms what they need to say.
2. Guided Activity – It can be used either the study or in the activate phase.
3. Creative Activity – It used in the activate phase. You give scenario and the student will answer.

Why we need to speak?

 Need or desire to speak


 Make sure they have the language knowledge
 Use pairs in your activities to allow interaction and reduce stress

Before the lesson

 Students must be engaged to the topic/lesson, ask them for example the weather on their place.

Study Phase

 Pre- teach (useful vocabulary, grammar)


 Do some activities and demonstrate those activity before the materials.

Main Speaking Activity (Activate)

 The speaker said that the student should form pairs and each pair has a card. Write the country
and month then create a forecast for the country. Through that we allow the student to speak.

o Writing Skills
- Speaking and writing has its similarities; some differences.

Sub-skills in Writing

1. Handwriting

2. Spelling

3. Punctuation

Typical – Writing Lesson (Straight arrow ESA)

 Same as in speaking should also engage our learners to our topic/lesson.

Study Phase

 The speaker’s idea in this phase is to show them the idea of cartoon strip to answer.
 We need to demonstrate, elicit correct answers before giving materials to them.

Activate Phase

 Another activity for them to answer.

B. Why we need to listen?

 For entertainment
 For a purpose.

Sub-Skills in Reading and Listening Skills

1. Detailed reading – It shows different examples.

2. Scanning – We look for specific information.

3. Skimming – We get the general overview of what the text was actually saying.

4. Prediction – What we think will happen next.

5. Deduction – From the information given can we make some differences.

Potential Problems

 Reading
1. Reading word for word
2. Sentence length
3. Structure
 Listening
1. Flow of information
2. Speed of speech
3. Accent

(One thing we can do is to think ways to avoid those problems)

Solutions
1. Pre-teach vocabulary and grammar

2. Careful selection of texts

3. Choice of topic

4. Create interest before you start

The use of games in the classroom

- We should use a game that has a rule, a teaching point and an element of fun such as scrabble,
monopoly, tic-tac-toe and Jeopardy.
