ASSIGNMENT 1: DATA-GATHERING REPORT

1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Purpose of the study The purpose of the study was to find out if polytechnic
students could go out with ease alone at any time of
the day.

2. METHOD

2.1 Participants 50 students from Temasek Polytechnic between the


ages of 16 and 25 took part in the survey. All of the
participants could read and understand English.

2.2 Materials The survey contained 10 questions on the feelings of


students who go out alone.

2.3 Procedure Firstly, the randomly selected students were briefed


about the study.
Next, each student was asked to attempt the survey.
Lastly, the quantitative data from the survey were then
studied using various statistical methods.
3. FINDINGS & CONCLUSION

3.1 Figure 1 shows whether students are worried when they go out alone at different times of

Figure 2 shows the reasons for why students are anxious when they are out alone.

With reference to Figure 1, 76% of students are anxious when going out alone. Although
50% felt worried at night, only 10.5% in the afternoon felt scared.
From Figure 2, security appears to be the main concern followed by safety.
It seems that students who are alone at night are prone to getting worried over their state
of being free from danger or threat.

3.2 The findings suggest that students could not go out with ease at any time of the day. As a
Conclusion result of this study, a proposal will be made to the safety committee to look into ways to
increase the comfortability levels of the students.
