The document provides information about solving quadratic equations through different methods such as extracting square roots, factoring, and completing the squares. It includes examples and worksheets to practice each method. Key steps are outlined for completing the squares method, which involves writing the equation in standard form, filling in blanks by taking half the coefficient of the x-term and squaring it, extracting the square root, and identifying solutions. Checking solutions is emphasized.

Any value that satisfies an equation is called a solution. The set of solutions that satisfy an
equation is called a solution set or root/s. To check if your answer satisfies the equation just plug in
the value to the given quadratic equation variable and simplify. If the answer is balance then your
solution or root is correct.
In finding the solution set or roots of a Quadratic Equation we may try the first method
called EXTRACTING THE SQUARE ROOTS. Some quadratic equation can be solved easily by extracting
the square root on both sides of the equation. Solving for x means to find all possible values of x
that might have been squared.

As you watch the video you can use the ac technique.
In solving quadratic equation by factoring method, it is important to note that, “if
ab = 0, then either a or b is equal to 0 or both a and b are equal to 0.” This is called the Zero Property.
In symbol, if ab = 0 then a = 0, or b = 0 or a = b = 0.

Example 1 Example 2 Example 3

x2 – 3x = 0 x2 + 3x + 2 = 0 5x2 - 6x + 1 = 0

In a quadratic equation, the discriminant helps tell you the number of real
solutions to a quadratic equation. The expression used to find the discriminant is the
expression located under the radical in the quadratic formula !
Discriminant :
The value of the discriminant determines the nature of the roots of a quadratic equation.
1. If the value of b2 4ac 0, And a perfect square, then the roots are Real, Rational and
Unequal.
2. If the value of b2 4ac 0, And not a perfect square, then the roots are Real, Irrational
and Unequal.
3. If the value of b2 4ac the roots are NON-REAL, imaginary numbers
4. If the value of b2 4ac the roots are REAL, RATIONAL and EQUAL
Find the value of the discriminant , then describe the nature of its roots.
