The Greatness of God and Mans Proper Response
I’m here to share devotional on Psalm 76: 1- 12. The title of my devotional is The Greatness of
God and Man’s proper response. For better understanding of the scripture let’s check some
Historical background. In 701 B.C. the Assyrian army under Sennacherib threatened to destroy
Jerusalem. But before they could even get near the city, the Angel of the Lord visited their
encampment by night and slew 185,000 troops. So in this scripture allows us to recognize The
Greatness of God and Man’s proper response
God is honored in Judah; his name is great in Israel. [2] Jerusalem is where he lives; Mount Zion
is his home. [3] There he has broken the fiery arrows of the enemy, the shields and swords and
weapons of war. Interlude [4] You are glorious and more majestic than the everlasting
mountains. [5] Our boldest enemies have been plundered. They lie before us in the sleep of
death. No warrior could lift a hand against us. [6] At the blast of your breath, O God of Jacob,
their horses and chariots lay still. [7] No wonder you are greatly feared! Who can stand before
you when your anger explodes? [8] From heaven you sentenced your enemies; the earth
trembled and stood silent before you. [9] You stand up to judge those who do evil, O God, and
to rescue the oppressed of the earth. Interlude [10] Human defiance only enhances your glory,
for you use it as a weapon. [11] Make vows to the LORD your God, and keep them. Let
everyone bring tribute to the Awesome One. [12] For he breaks the pride of princes, and the
kings of the earth fear him.
Psalm 76:1-12 NLT- In these chapter God shows his greatness among to his people as a result of
praising Him
Happy people are those who have their land filled with the knowledge of God! Happy persons
that have their hearts filled with that knowledge! It is the glory and happiness of a people to
have God among them by his orders. Wherein the enemies of the church deal proudly, it will
appear that God is above them. See the power of God's rebukes. With pleasure may Christians
apply this to the advantages imparted by the Redeemer.
a.76: 1- 6 the church is here dominant even in the midst of its rebellious state. The psalmist, in
the church's name, victories here in God, the center of all our victories.
B. Context: 76:7- 12 Man’s proper response
God's people are the meek of the earth, the quiet in the land that suffer wrong, but do none.
The righteous God seems to keep silence long, yet, sooner or later, he will make judgment to be
heard. We live in an angry, provoking world; we often feel much, and are right to fear more,
from the wrath of man. What will not turn to his praise, shall not be suffered to break out. He
can set bounds to the wrath of man, as he does to the raging sea; before it be about to come,
and no further. Let all submit to God. Our prayers and praises, and especially our hearts, are the
presents we should bring to the Lord. His name is glorious, and he is the proper object of our
fear. He can dispirit the most daring since there is no contending with God, it is our wisdom, as
it is our duty, to submit to him. Let us seek his favor as our portion, and commit all our concerns
to him.
Application:
Let us pray,
Lord, we are sorry for our sin that we commit and Thank you for protecting us in the lies of the
enemies seen or unseen. Help us to lean on you at all times as well as to obey you at all cost
because you are our assurance. And I pray Oh Lord that you will help us to response
respectable at all times we encounter conflict. I pray that you will continuously guide and
protect us In Glorious Name of Jesus Amen
