NARRATIVE/ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT
With loud cheers floating in the air from the high-spirited Bachelor of Science in
Accountancy (BSA) students that dominated the Audio-Visual Theater of Colegio de
Dagupan, the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA)-local chapter unleashed this
academic year’s JPIA Day with the theme, “Strengthening the Bond Through Exhibition of
Talents” with Joshua R. Barboza, CPA as guest speaker. This event was held on September
20, 2019.
The said event was in line with the school’s philosophy that says, “The institution
believes that through education, man’s God-given gifts are discovered and developed for
his personal fulfillment and community uplift.” Indeed, this JPIA Day is a perfect
opportunity in order for the BSA students to showcase their creativity, wit, and talent as
this event was incorporated with various contests.
This year’s JPIA Day was hosted by the two executive officers of the organization
(JPIA-CdD) namely, Rosemarie Abrigo, the Vice president for Academics and Frances
Marella Cristobal, the Vice President for Finance. The event started off smoothly with a
prayer and the recitation of CdD’s Philosophy, Vision, Mission, and Objectives and was then
followed by the opening remarks of the School of Business and Accountancy’s Dean, Sir
Daniel Gonzales, CPA, MDM. Right after that, was the inspirational talk of the ever
enthusiastic Assistant Vice President for Finance and Research & Development, Sir Jann
Alfred Quinto.
After the opening talks made by the Dean and VP for Finance and R&D was the note-
worthy lecture of the honorable guest speaker, Sir Barboza, CPA who landed on 11 th place
in the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination 2018.
To add some spice on the program and to break the ice, an intermission number was
also presented to the audience as prepared by the JPIA’s Vice President for Non-Academics,
Chris John Sabas together with his company.
On the other hand, it is also good to note that every school department has a major
organization which caters the needs of their members. In SBA, particularly in SBA, we have
the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) – local chapter who, as mentioned
above, organized the JPIA Day. To enlighten the student body, as part of the program, Ms.
Regine Racca introduced the organization which was then followed by the formal induction
of its officers.
Subsequently and in relation to that day’s event, the JPIA-local chapter President,
Wilmarie Jem Camacho also gave an interesting talk to her fellow BSA students to wrap up
the opening program.
After the opening program, various contests were simultaneously held in the
morning inside the campus which are the following – Cyber Accounting Genius, Group Quiz
Bee, and Siniratura which were spearheaded the respective JPIA-local chapter executive
officers. The Siniratura was subdivided into different categories – short story writing, essay
writing, black poetry, and slogan making. In the afternoon, Cheer & Yell and Parody Making
which are both contests against the various blocks from first year to second year of BSA
were held. Winners on these competitions will be awarded with medals, certificates, and
other prizes later in the closing program.
For the Cyber Accounting Genius which was participated by the first year finalists,
Victor Cayago of block 1 grabbed the first place, followed by Fatima Angel Calderon of block
3 and Hannah Anmelie Escobedo of block 2 on the second and third places. For the Group
Quiz Bee, the team of Erlyn Garcia, Michaella Penic and Joyce Jacinto landed on the first
place. For Siniratura, the winners are Shekainah Grace Agleam for essay writing, Venus
Lorraine Bauzon for short story writing, Lykamae Valdez for slogan making and Charlene
Rose Aquino for black poetry. The second year blocks dominated the contests held in the
afternoon of the event as the block 1 championed on the cheer and yell competition while
the block 2 reigned supreme in the parody making contest.
After the awarding, Sir Aldrin Calimlim, CPA formally wrapped up the event with his
closing remarks. And as evident in the faces of everyone who participated as they leave
with bright and satisfied smiles on their faces, we can conclude that this year’s JPIA Day
was definitely a success!
