1. Kounin’s concept of with-it-ness. What teacher behaviors manifest with-it-ness?

William Glasser inspired the research of Jacob Kaunin. The result of his research claims that teacher
inside the classroom can establish disciplinary action but giving a clear understanding on how to prevent
disciplinary action in the first place. His research gives several conclusions but today I’ll be giving the
with-it-ness.

With-it-ness is one of the finding research result of Kounin. This refers to the teacher’s alertness and
awareness at all time. Using his/her observation, the teacher can use sort of surveillance inside the
classroom. By this way, students will know that the teacher have full view of the classroom and if the
teacher spots misbehavior , he/she can use facial expression or anything as long as indicates visually to
the student that the teacher recognize the misbehaving student in the class. This is good because you
are dealing with minor problem inside the school and are not showing angriness in the class but asking
for some respect. This is enough to stop the behavior without the rest of the student being aware or
being disturbed. This is only for minor problem solution yet if there is a necessary of giving some action
then teacher much do. But from this minor problem, teacher acts in a very simple way showing to the
student that teacher have surveillance in every corner of the classroom.

2. Bullying in school. What is the extent of bullying in school? What damage does it
bring?

The bully means seek to harm, intimidate or in other word it is a negative behavior towards
others. And yes, it happened inside the school. When the teacher is unaware of this, then there
will be big effects to the student. According to the research, students who are bullied may have
poor academic performance. Their interest in schooling decreases because of trying to avoid
further damage of physical and emotional aspects. According to National Center for Educational
Statistics survey reveals that 14% of bullied students struggle academically. Moreover, the
effect in emotional aspects include struggles with low self-esteem, insomnia, depression, and
suicidal thoughts and actions. In addition, students who are bullied are twice as likely to suffer
from health problems, such as stomach issues or headaches. Bullying does not only impact the
students, but also their family and classmates. Feeling powerless and confused, parents and
other family members of bullying targets may experience depression, anxiety, and stress-
related illnesses. Some parents become overprotective of their children if they feel they "failed"
to protect them. Friends and classmates of the student who is bullied may feel powerless to
help, guilt over not standing up for the target, and fearful of becoming the next target.
