1. Differentiate pharmaceutical alternative and Pharmaceutical equivalent


- Pharmaceutical Alternative are products are considered pharmaceutical equivalents if
they contain the same active ingredient/s, are of the same dosage form, route of
administration and are identical in strength or concentration. On the other hand,
Pharmaceutical alternatives are defined as drug products that have the
same therapeutic moiety, but are different dosage forms.
2. Differentiate pharmaceutical equivalent and therapeutically equivalent.
-Pharmaceutical Equivalent are drug products that have the same therapeutic moiety
but different dosage forms. Whereas Therapeutically Equivalent are products having the same
clinical effect and safety profile.
3. Are drugs that are bioequivalent equally therapeutic equivalents?
- When two formulations of the same drug or two drug products are claimed bioequivalent,
it is assumed that they will provide the same therapeutic effect or that they are
therapeutically equivalent. 
4. Compare and contrast prescription and medication order.
A medication order is written directions provided by a prescribing practitioner for a
specific medication to be administered to an individual. The prescribing practitioner may also give
a medication order verbally to a licensed person such as a pharmacist or a nurse.

5. Which among the scheduled I-V drugs can be refilled only up to 5 times or 6 months after issued
date? Give example drugs under the schedule/s you may mention.
schdule III: Ketamine Vicodin (combination products containing less than 15 milligrams
of hydrocodone per dosage unit) Tylenol with Codeine (products containing not more
than 90 milligrams of codeine per dosage unit) buprenorphine (Suboxone).

II. Give the proper interpretation of the following medication orders that may contain latin
abbreviation.
a. D/C Clindamycin 60mg IV q6 hours
-discontinue Clindamycin 60mg intravenous every 6 hours.
b. Acetaminophen 650mg PO q6 hours prn temp >101 degrees Fahrenheit
-Take Acetaminophen 650mg orally every 6 hours as needed if temperature is greater
than 101 degrees Farenheit

c. KCl 20 mEq in 0.9% NSS IV at 100ml/hr x 1 Liter


- Give Potassium Chloride 20 milliequivalent in 0.9% normal saline solution
intravenpusly at 100ml per liter
d. Take 1-2 tabs Clonidine po q4-6h prn pain
-Take 1 to 2 tablets of Clonidine orally every 4 to 6 hours as needed when in pain
e. Inj. 10u of Insulin glargine sc. qAM qd
-Inject 10 units of Insulin Glargine subcutaneously every morning of every day.
III. Write the correct latin abbreviation
a. Take 1 capsule by mouth before meals
Sig: 1 tab per os ante cibos
b. Give one half table spoon suspension immediately.
Sig: Give ss tbs of susp stat
c. Use 1 suppository rectally as needed for constipation
Sig: Use 1 supp. prn for constipation
e. Give 5 milliliters via nasogastric tube every after meals
Sig: Give 5ml NGT q.p.c
f. Apply topically four times a day as needed for itchiness
Sig: advov .q.i.d. p.r.n. for itchiness
