Problem No.

1:

For the given vectors shown below, determine (a) the magnitude of the
resultant  V1 + V2 using the parallelogram law of addition, (b) the angle between
the resultant V1 + V2  and the positive -axis.
Solution:

R 3
360=2 ( 75 ° ) +2∝=105° =
sin 105 sin ∝

R=
a 2+b 2−2 abcosθ ∝=31.22 °

R=

R= 5.59

Problem No. 2:

Using the figure below, if the magnitude of the resultant of the 700 N force
and F is a 500 N force directed along the positive  axis, determine (a) the
magnitude of force F, (b) the angle θ.
sin ∝ sin 105
Solution: =
700 959.78

c= )
a 2+b 2−2 abcosθ ∝=sin−1 ¿

c=
7002 +5002−2 ( 700 ) ( 500 ) cos ( 105 ) ∝=44.79°

c= 959.78 N

θ=90 °−44.79

θ=45.21 °

Activity 2:

(a) the 800 N force, (b) the 500 N force.

Problem No. 2:

From the given figure shown, determine (a) the rectangular representation of the
tensile force on cable  where T=3 kN , (b) the direction angles of  T measured
from  C to D.
Problem No. 3:

From the given figure, the roof is supported by two cables shown. The force being
exerted by the cables are  FAB =100 N and  FAC  = 120 N on the wall hook at .
Calculate the following: (a) the rectangular representation of FAB , (b) the
rectangular representation of  FAC , (c) the magnitude of the resultant force
of  FAB  and FAC .
Solution:

F AB=( 4 i−4 k ) m F A C =( 4 i+ 2 j−4 k ) m

F AB=√ 4 2+(−4¿¿ 2)=5.66 m ¿ F AC =√ 4 2+22 −4 2=6 m
