ACTIVITY: Lodge buildings BY: Bradley Harris

1. INTRODUCTION

This method statement is for the Demolition of the Beechridge Lodge buildings at the above site. Specific
method statements for individual items of work will be provided to the planning supervisor and site at least
14 days in advance to work commencing. All works will be under the direct supervision of the Northeast
Demolition Supervisor Ray Woolman. This method statement should be read in conjunction with the
provided risk assessments.

3. PROJECT MANAGER

Northeast Demolition UK Ltd will have a competent project manager controlling the works at all times. The
manager nominated for this site is Ray Woolman, an experienced worker with a vast amount of experience
in managing this type of work.

4. FIRST AID ARRANGEMENTS

Northeast Demolition UK Ltd will provide 1st Aid facilities, and all details will be highlighted in induction
training. The first aider Ray Woolman will be available on site at all times.

5. PLANT AND EQUIPMENT

Plant and equipment assigned to this contract will be fully inspected and tested where applicable and will be
thoroughly inspected periodically in accordance with The Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations
1998. All plant and equipment will be operated by nominated, competent personnel only. Plant to be used
will include:
360 excavator Hitachi Trevor Moss
360 excavator JCB 220 John Kochan
360 excavator CAT 220BL Ray Woolman
Tower scaffolds
Various hand tools

6. SECURITY

Site security will be the responsibility of Hill Partnerships. All security requirements outlined in the site
rules will be adhered to at all times by Northeast Demolition UK Ltd. All working areas will be left in a safe
secure condition at the end of each day. All plant will be kept secure at all times to prevent unauthorised use.

7. EMERGENCY / RESCUE PROCEDURES.

Emergency procedures will be outlined to Northeast Demolition employees during induction training. All
additional emergency requirements will be relayed to Northeast Demolition employees by the Supervisor
Ray Woolman by the way of regular tool box talks.

8. TRAINING

All Northeast Demolition operatives employed on the contract will be competent in their trade and in health
and safety issues. The Northeast Demolition supervisor will carry out regular tool box talks to all employees.
The tool box talks will involve familiarisation of all agreed method statements and risk assessments. Upon
entering site Northeast Demolition operatives will report to the site supervisor for site induction.

9. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

All employees will be issued with and wear appropriate, suitable PPE to include; head protection, safety
footwear, gloves and high visibility waistcoats. Other PPE for the use of plant e.g. eye protection and
respirator will be issued where applicable.

10. OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH ISSUES

COSHH Assessments will be made available on all applicable products and the information passed to the
people carrying out the work via tool box talks. Specific issues such as noise, vibration and manual handling
activities which fall outside the control measures of the provided risk assessments, will be individually
assessed by the Northeast Demolition Training Manager where required.

11. ACCESS REQUIREMENTS

All external access scaffolding will be provided by Northeast Demolition UK Ltd, and will meet the
requirements of the Work at Height Regulations 2005. All internal access platforms will be provided and
erected by a competent, trained person employed by Northeast Demolition and inspected before use.

12. WASTE DISPOSAL

Waste material will be cleared from the work area at regular intervals throughout the day and loaded into
tipper lorries supplied by Northeast Demolition. All waste will be removed from site by Northeast
Demolition to a designated land fill site. This work will take place outside rush hour to avoid congestion. Hill
partnerships site manager will be given a waste transfer note for all the skips removed from site.

13. SITE WORKING HOURS

The site working hours will be 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm Saturday. Any work outside
these hours will not be carried out without prior approval of the client.

14. SITE PARKING

All car parking will be restricted to the site only, crew buses and car sharing will be utilised where
practicable.

15. PERMIT TO WORK

Permits to work will be applied for and controlled by Northeast Demolition where site rules and risk
assessments show that they are required.

16. HEALTH & SAFETY INSPECTIONS

Site inspection audits will be carried by the Northeast Demolition Health & Safety Manager on a two weekly
basis, although this could be more frequent if the work being carried out posed a higher risk than previous
weeks. An inspection format will be left on site containing any comments and remedial action to be taken.
A copy of the site inspection will be forwarded to the CDM Co-ordinator.

17. ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

Noise will be kept to a minimum at all times and particular consideration will be given when selection plant,
the method of working to be adopted and hours worked.
We shall comply generally with BS5228 and sections 60 and 61 of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 with
reference to the control of noise.
Compressors, percussion tools and vehicles will be fitted with silencers recommended by the manufacturer.

Pneumatic drills and other noisy appliances will not be used without the consent of the Construction
Manager. Operations that are potentially noisy will be notified to tenants and the work will only be carried
out during agreed hours of operation.

Music radios will not be used on site.

Pollution of the site, the works and the general environment will be prevented. Pollution will be considered
at all stages of the works, both temporary and permanent.

COSHH details will be obtained for all substances hazardous to health before their use on site. Such details
will be retained on site for general viewing. Operatives will be informed of the nature of the material they
are using, the hazards they face and the measures to be taken to prevent injury. Substances that risk injury
to third parties will not be used.

Welfare facilities, to be supplied by the Principle Contractor, will be maintained in an immaculate condition
at all times.

All waste material will be segregated where applicable and disposed of to a licensed landfill site.

We are committed to providing quality workmanship, and thus we inspect the works daily and make good as
the works proceed.

Making good defects and final clean will be carried out as work proceeds and prior to package completion
date and offered to the Construction Manager for inspection.

Prior to the commencement of the works, we would be pleased for you to visit other contracts we are
currently working on to view the workmanship and meet and proposed Project Manager and his team.

Northeast Demolition will use environmentally or recycled packaging where practicable.

18. LIGHTING

Task Lighting will not be needed during the soft strip, all vandal guards will be removed prior to demolition
this creating appropriate lighting in the buildings.

19. SERVICES

Mechanical Services - The system has been removed, this consisted of 1 x gas main entering the premises.

Electrical Services – The main electric feed for all of the buildings has been disconnected. The existing
electrical services to be removed in the buildings consists of the following:-
• Small Power i.e. socket outlets and machines
• Lighting
• Fire Alarms
• Telephone and Data.

Water – Water will be used for demolition works from the standpipe at the site entrance.

20. HOT WORKS

Hot work permits will be required for the following activities:-


Burning/Cutting of steel, soldering and grinding, hot works on roof based activities.
The Hill Partnerships Hot Works permit to be used in all instances
The individual responsible for checking hot work areas daily 1 hour after work has ceased is named below:-
Site Foreman or his delegate.

21. THIRD PARTY CONSIDERATION

Vehicular access to be maintained for the use of the residents of Woodland Way, all vehicle movements to be
escorted at all times. Absolute consideration must be given to the residents with regards to access to and
from their property during this project. Heavy traffic must be kept to its absolute minimum with every
consideration to working hours/ parking. This access is to marked and protected from all construction
activities.

buildings 2 – 11 & 12 - 39 Bradley Harris

INTRODUCTION
This Method Statement is for the Demolition of the Beechridge Lodge buildings 2 -11 & 12 - 39 at the above
site. The demolition will be under the control of the Northeast Demolition contract manager, Shaun Harvey
and the direct supervision of the relevant section Foreman. Ray Woolman. If the demolition to a specific
area falls outside the scope of this Method Statement, a new assessment will be carried out.

1. Northeast Demolition operatives to check premises for needles before they commence the strip-out.

2. Making sure the site is sectioned off, operatives with hand tools to clear interior of buildings of all
loose debris and rubbish. By hand remove fixtures and fittings, items of salvage from within the
main structure. Where removal from height, use appropriate ladders and tower scaffolds.

3. Loose debris and rubbish from first floor to be placed into rubbish skip. Heras fencing to be erected
around the waste skip for an exclusion zone.

Asbestos roof slates removal


4. Operatives working from tower scaffold to remove all slates by hand to be passed down in a man
chain keeping complete then place into asbestos skip for disposal. Any broken slates from roof, place
into asbestos bags, to then seal bags with tape. All bags to be carried down and placed into skip
carefully. The skip will be taken to a designated landfill only when a full consignment note is issued.
Throughout this operation operatives to dampen down area of demolition to minimise dust pollution.

5. If operatives are required to go onto roof area to remove slates they must be harnessed to a solid
harness point and use crawl boards. Operatives to remove all timber truss roof to eves level using
hand tools, all debris to be placed into skip for disposal.

6. Bat man to be present during the removal of the slates, Hill Partnerships to inform Bat man of
demolition works.

7. 360 excavator fitted with grapple to remove timber frame roof and felt and place into waste skip for
removal of site.

8. 360 excavator fitted with verator (concrete processing attachment) to break through concrete floor
one bay at a time exposing the steal frame. 360 excavator fitted with sheer to cut through steel
trusses then 360 excavator fitted with verator to demolish building in a box fashion by folding
external and internal walls to third floor level. All walls to be pulled into the footprint of the
building this carried out under the eye of operatives for any loose debris. Operatives throughout this
operation to dampen down area of demolition to minimise dust pollution

9. 360 excavator fitted with a sheer to cut steel upright legs one bay at a time and place steel into skips
for removal of site. If steels are not accessible to cut by 360 excavator. Operative to cut the steel using
oxygen & propane cutting equipment.

10. 360 excavator fitted with heavy rock bucket to gather up all hardcore, to be segregated and placed
into stockpiles ready for crushing on site. Operatives throughout this operation to dampen down
area of demolition to minimise dust pollution.

11. Access roads to be kept clear at all times.

12. 360 excavators to be kept within the footprint of the buildings in order to prevent further damage to
the vegetation.

13. All employees will be issued with and will wear PPE at all times to include; hi visibility waistcoats,
head protection and safety footwear.

INTRODUCTION
This Method Statement is for the Demolition of the Beechridge Lodge buildings 40-67 & 68-96 at the above
site. The demolition will be under the control of the Northeast Demolition contract manager, Shaun Harvey
and the direct supervision of the relevant section Foreman. Ray Woolman. If the demolition to a specific
area falls outside the scope of this Method Statement, a new assessment will be carried out.

INTRODUCTION
This Method Statement is for the concrete and footing removal of the above site. The grubbing up will be
under the control of the Northeast Demolition contract manager, Shaun Harvey and the direct supervision
of the relevant section Foreman. Ray Woolman. If the demolition to a specific area falls outside the scope of
this Method Statement, a new assessment will be carried out.

1. All machinery and plant only to be operated by fully trained personnel.

2. 360 excavator fitted with hydraulic breaker starting in a suitable position at one end, systematically
break up entire floor slab and hard standings, sufficient to allow removal with excavator fitted with
heavy rock bucket.

3. 360 excavator to then be fitted with heavy rock bucket, starting at a suitable position at one edge
systematically and methodically excavate all broken material at relevant times and stockpile for
crushing on site.

4. 360 excavator fitted with heavy rock bucket to excavate all obstructions down to 2 meters, ie:
footings and any basement areas. Any heavy obstructions fit hydraulic breaker to machine, break
obstruction sufficient to allow for removal with heavy rock bucket.

5. Heavy rock bucket to gather up all hardcore, concrete and footings then placed into stockpiles ready
for crushing on site. Operatives throughout this operation to dampen down area of demolition to
minimise dust pollution.

6. Access roads to be kept clear at all times.

7. All employees will be issued with and will wear PPE at all times to include; hi visibility waistcoats,
head protection and safety footwear.

INTRODUCTION
This Method Statement is for the Traffic control and material deliveries in the restricted area at the above
site. The demolition will be under the control of the Northeast Demolition contract manager, Shaun Harvey
and the direct supervision of the relevant section Foreman. Ray Woolman. Demolition to a specific area falls
outside the scope of this Method Statement, a new assessment will be carried out.

1. Following advanced booking all machinery and plant will be delivered to site at the earliest
opportunity during the morning before rush hour.

2. No plant material or equipment is to be placed in a position where in the event of accident,


malfunction or failure it could fall outside the site boundary.

3. Drivers and banksman to follow the traffic management plan.

4. Front entrance of the site, to be kept clear at all times. Two banksman to control traffic on
Woodland Way during deliveries to the site.

5. Signs directing visiting drivers to report to site office are to be erected.

6. Speed restrictions to be displayed and enforced as necessary.

7. All employees will be issued with and will wear PPE at all times to include; hi visibility
waistcoats, head protection, safety footwear and face masks.

INTRODUCTION
This Method Statement is for Crushing the arising materials from the demolition at the above site. The
demolition will be under the control of the Northeast Demolition contract manager, Shaun Harvey and the
direct supervision of the relevant section Foreman. Ray Woolman. If the demolition to a specific area falls
outside the scope of this Method Statement, a new assessment will be carried out.

29. The site is to be bounded by hoarding fencing to form an appropriate security and safety boundary.

30. No plant machinery will be switched on before 8am.

31. Mobile Crusher to be placed into area of the site as requested by Hill Partnerships.

32. Safety Guard above jaws to be checked before the Mobile Crusher is switched on.

33. 360 excavator fitted with heavy rock bucket to carefully load the Mobile Crusher with the materials
arising from the demolition works.

34. Wind blown dusts from stockpiles to be minimized by damping down.

35. Noise levels to be monitored at site boundry.

36. Persons qualified to do so will only operate machinery.

37. Access roads to be kept clear at all times.

38. All employees will be issued with and will wear PPE at all times to include; hi visibility waistcoats,
head protection, hearing protection, safety footwear and harnesses.
