Origami Owl Instructions and Diagrams
Follow the steps below to make this Origami Owl.
Difficulty: Medium

The origami owl is a gorgeous piece of paper sculpture. If I did a better job at it,
you'll be able to tell. However, you can just see how awesome it can really be if
all the cuts and creases were done perfectly. Yes, there are a couple of cuts
you'll have to make, but they're very minor and really helps define the figure of an
owl.

This origami owl is not hard to make at all. Folding the wings were a little
awkward, but really cool when you see them take shape. The owl is really fun to
fold and cool to look at. Try it yourself.

Step 1: Start with a square piece of origami paper. If

you only have regular 8.5x11 paper, follow these
instructions to make a square sheet.

Step 2: Fold the paper in half by folding the top corner

to the bottom corner.
Step 3: Now fold the triangle in half by taking the left
corner and folding it to the right.

Step 4: Open the top flap and spread then crease the
left and right sides so you can flatten the flap down to
meet at the bottom corner.
Step 5: Turn the paper over so we can do the same
thing to the other side.

Step 6: To mimic what we did earlier, lift the left flap up

and open it from the left and right sides. Crease the
sides down so its corner can meet the bottom corner of
the figure.
Step 7: Take the top layers of both sides and fold it to
meet the center line like you see in the picture.

Step 8: Now fold the top triangle down.

Go to Next page to continue making the origami owl.

Step 9: Unfold the top triangle and both sides.

Step 10: Open the top layer and using the creases as
a guide, fold the left and right sides in to meet at the
center.
Step 11: Turn the figure over so we can do the same
to the other side.

Step 12: Fold the left and right sides to meet at the
center, then unfold.

Step 13: Lift the top layer up all the way and using the
creases as a guide, fold the left and right sides in to
meet at the center.
Step 14: Now fold that layer back down.

Step 15: Turn the paper over and fold that

layer down also.

Step 16: Take the left and right sides of the top layer
and fold it in to meet at the center.

Step 17: Turn the figure over and do the same

thing to this side, folding the left and right sides
in to the center.

Step 18: Now we'll make the wings. Pull out

the right flap from inside the figure and twist it.
Make sure to twist the rear side upwards.

(In the picture I twisted the rear downwards and

that's why in the rest of the pics after this step,
the owl has "sleeves". So twist the rear
upwards!)
Step 19: Make the wings for the left side also.

Step 20: Now on to the head. Fold a portion of

the top triangle down, but make sure not to fold
it down past the corner where the flaps meet.

Step 21: Fold a major portion of it up again.

Notice I did not entirely unfold, but kept 1/4th of
it down and folded only 3/4ths of it back up.
Step 22: Now fold the whole triangle down
including that 1/4th piece.

Step 23: For the feet, we're going to need

scissors. Take the bottom of the top layer
and do a small cut up the middle.

Step 24: Fold the newly created flaps up.

Step 25: Turn the owl over so we can begin forming the "ea

Step 26: Take a scissor and cut ONLY the top layer
of the back of the head. You'll have to cut at an angle
from the side of the head to the center up top.

See the picture in the next step for a closer look.

Step 27: Cut both sides. Once you're done cutting,

it should look like

this.

Step 28: Simplly fold the "ears" up.

Step 29: Turn it over and you've just completed the

origami owl.
Wasn't that fun?
