Detailed Lesson Plan in Grade 8

February 27, 2019

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, 75% of the students are expected to:
a. Remember the formula no . of favorable outcome /no of all possible outcomes ;
b. Solve the probability of an event;
c. Show willingness to response in the discussions.

WILLINGNESS

II. Subject Matter

a. Topic: Basic concept of Probability
b. Reference: Mathematics Module 8
c. Materials: Video, Visual aids and dice
d. CG code: M8GE-IVh-1

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
May I request a volunteer to lead our
prayer? Let us pray. Heavenly Father…
2. Greetings Amen.
Good Afternoon Class!
3. Checking of Attendance Good afternoon Ma’am.
Is there any absent today?
4. Passing of Assignments None Ma’am.
Please pass your assignments.
5. Review
Before we proceed to our next topic, here
are the things that you need to recall in
order for you learn our lesson today.
Simplify the following:
1. 2/4 =½
2. 0/6 =0
3. 10/10 =1
Now you are equipped with the prior
knowledge you need to learn.
B. Lesson Proper
1. Motivation
Now I will show you a video that could help
you understand the concept of our topic
today.
( the video will be shown to the students)
Did you enjoy the video? Yes Ma’am.
Who are the characters in the video? The 4 spinners.
How do they decide on which road to take? They let their arrow spins to
decide on which road they will
take. If the arrow points 3 then
they will take road 3 but if the
arrow points 1 or 2 then they will
take the other road.

What was the difference among the 4 The first spinner has a bigger
spinners? How do these differences affect space for number 3, so it has a
them? bigger chance to take route 3.

How about spinner 2? The second one has a smaller

space for number 3, so the
chance of taking the route 3 is
smaller.
How about spinner 3 and 4? The third one has no number 3 in
the spinner, so it is impossible for
it to travel route 3.
Spinner 4 has only one number
which is number 3, so it will
surely take the road 3 no matter
how many times it spins the
spinner.
(In short, each of them has
different chances in travelling the
routes. Their differences affect
their choices they make.)
That was a very good observation. The path
they will take depends on the chances not
by their will.
2. Presentation of the New Lesson
The word that I want to emphasize with you
is “CHANCE”. But how can we compute the
chances of an event to happen?
So, today we are going to explore the
mathematics behind this.
Probability
 is an estimation of how likely is
that an event will occur.
 Is a chance of an event to happen.
Class, are you familiar color game? No Ma’am.
You are going to place your bet on the color
you think would win then I will roll the die,
if your color is at the top then you win, if
not you will lose the game.
Now, I will choose 6 students to play the
game. ( the teacher will choose 6 students)
Let’s add some twist to it.
Group 1 will bet in one color only.
Group 2 will bet on two colors.
Group 3 will choose 3 colors. And so on.
What can you say about our game? Ma’am, the game is unfair
because student 6 will always
win. Group 1 has the smallest
chances of winning.
“Now let us compute the probability that
each of the Group win.”
The formula for getting the probability is:
no of favorable outcome /no of al l possible outcome s

Who wants to read and explain the It is the result that you wanted to
meaning of favorable outcome? happen. Example for me getting
red, so the number is 1 since
there is only one red in the dice.
That was a very good explanation. So, how All possible outcomes of an
about event. Just like in the activity, the
number is 6 because there are 6
colors in the game.
That’s right. Now that you have an idea
about favorable outcome, all possible
outcomes and you already know the
formula on how to solve the probability,
than can someone try to give the
probability that Group 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 will
win? =1/6
=2/6 or 1/3
=3/6 or 1/2
=4/6 or 4/3
=5/6
=6/6 or 1
What if I will join the game, and I will
choose color pink, what is the probability
that I will win? 0, because there is no pink in the
dice so the favorable outcome is
0.
“Now, try to look at your answers, what
was the highest probability? What was the
lowest Probability? 0 and 1.
C. Activity
Now we will have a group activity.
(Each group will be given a task card to
work on.)
Directions: Answer the following:
If your group will be performing a draw
lots, what is the probability of picking:
1. the name of your teacher;
2. a girl;
3. a student with the name starts with letter
A?
(the activity will be done in 3 minutes)
D. Closure
1. Generalization
What is probability? Chance of an event.
How can we compute the probability of an
event? Favorable outcome/total
outcomes
What is the range of the probability? 0-1
What does it mean when getting a
probability equal to 1? The event is sure or certain.
How about getting 0 prob.? The event is impossible to
happen.

IV. Evaluation
Directions: In a ½ crosswise, solve the probability of the following problem.
A bag has two red marble, 5 green marbles, and 3 blue marbles. You will pick one
marble, what is the probability of getting:
a. Red marble;
b. Green marble;
c. Blue marble;
d. Yellow marble;
e. Red or green marble;
f. Not blue marble.
V. Assignment
Directions: In your activity notebook, answer the following questions.

Five red candies left in a bag of 40 different colored candies.

1. What is the probability of getting red candy?
How did you find the answer?
2. If you didn’t pick a red one in your first try, without replacing the candy, what is the
probability of getting red if you pick again?
How many candies are now in the bag?
How many red candies are there?
