Chapter I

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Today, one of the hot issues in technology is about technological devices.


Broadly speaking, all cellular phones, laptop and computers belong to
technological devices. There’s no denying that this technological devices has
become a significant part of students’ everyday lives. But the question is, how
are these devices affect the student’ learning? We are witnesses to sick on how
the students learning affects by technological devices. Until now we can read in
the newspapers about the good and the bad effects the technological devices
may give to the learning of the students. Technology has always flourished for
the gain of mankind. The major achievements of technology have left man spell-
bound and every part of the world today is enjoying the comforts provided by
technology. Thanks to technology, all the countries are interlinked and we are
now living in a global village. Modern technology has greatly improved people's
lives through different fields such as medicine, work, education and industry,
especially education. However, we cannot say that technology is all good in itself.
It is a two-edged sword and we have to see to what extent it has really helped
improved people's standard of living. There are many possible effects on using it.
And it depends only on the way the users used it. They have to know how to use
it for their benefit and should not abuse its use. It should be properly used rather
than rely on it totally.

The use of tech gadgets in the classroom is a controversial issue. On the


one hand, there are the advantages of using electronic devices in learning.
Computers and other electronic devices can greatly enhance the learning
experience. They can help with teaching certain math concepts, allow students to
explore the world outside the classroom, create opportunities to connect with
other students and experts all over the globe and even help with accountability
and self-assessment. On the other hand, it also shows that the presence of
gadgets in the classroom offers too many opportunities for distraction.

However, the Senior High School Students known has :digital natives”
who are used to consuming information in a variety of ways and interacting with
tech tools all day, it is impossible to avoid using tech tools in the classroom. Even
if the teacher is of an older generation, it is worth learning to use tech gadgets in
creative, productive and educational ways, especially since the benefits of
gadgets in learning and teaching can be numerous.

When students are using technology as a tool or a support for


communicating with others, they are in an active role rather than the passive role
of recipient of information transmitted by a teacher, textbook, or broadcast. The
student is actively making choices about how to generate, obtain, manipulate, or
display information. Technology use allows many more students to be actively
thinking about information, making choices, and executing skills than is typical in
teacher-led lessons. Moreover, when technology is used as a tool to support
students in performing authentic tasks, the students are in the position of defining
their goals, making design decisions, and evaluating their progress.

Under constant demands to improve the quality of higher education within an


increasingly digital world, technology is often seen as a way to increase learning

Statement of the problem:

The study focused on the Advantages and Disadvantages of using gadgets

Specifically, this study will answer the following questions:

1. What are the advantages of using gadgets in learning process of Senior


High-School Student?
2. What are the disadvantages of using gadgets in learning process of
Senior High-School Student?
3. What is the importance of gadget in learning process of Senior High
School Student?

Scope and delimination of the study

This study is focused on the advantages and disadvantages of using gadgets in


the learning process of Senior High School Students.The respondents of the
study were selected Senior High School Students of Lagao National Highschool
– Annex Among the students of School Year 2018-2019.

Conceptual Framework
The Study focuses on the advantages and disadvantages of using
gadgets in the learning process of Senior High School Students. Wherein the
student is the independent variable and the dependent variable is the
advantages and disadvantages of using gadgets in learning process of Senior
High School.This study aims to determine how the advantages and
disadvantages of using gadgets can affect the learning process of Senior High
School Students of Lagao National High School Annex.

Significance of the study:

The result of this study will help the following Persons specifically:

Teachers: That they may know what is the advantage and disadvantages of
using gadgets during their class

Students: That they may know what will be the of their gadgets in their learning
process

Researcher: That the researcher may know what will be the opinion of their
fellow students regarding the research about the advantage and disadvantage of
using gadgets.

Future Researcher: That they may gain knowledge about doing a research
about the advantage and disadvantage of using gadgets.

Definition of Terms

Gadget - a small mechanical or electronic device or tool, especially an ingenious


or novel one.

Advantage - a condition or circumstance that puts one in a favorable or superior


position.

Disadvantage - an unfavorable circumstance or condition that reduces the


chances of success or effectiveness.

Learning Process - The activity or process of gaining knowledge or skill by


studying, practicing, being taught, or experiencing something. the activity of
someone who learns.

School- Refers to Lagao National High School- Annex as an Institution for


conducting the research

Student- Refers to the Senior High School Students of Lagao National High
School Annex has the Interviewee of the study.

better understanding about the research problem.This chapter also makes the
research strong because of the support of the other researchers that is
connected to this study.

Today’s classrooms are equipped with the latest technology to enhance

Chapter III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter describes the methodology used to collect data. Methodology is


important because it provides more prospective on the problem being studies.
The methods used in this study are locale of the study, participants of the study,
research design, instrument for data collection, data collection, validation of the
questionnaire and the researcher analyze the data.

Locale of the study

The Lagao National High School Annex was located in Purok Malakas,
San Isidro, General Santos City. This barangay was once a part of Lagao that
seperates and was named with another due to its wide land area.It was then
called as the 2nd barrio of Lagao, Barangay San Isidro.

Nearby Elementary Schools, Lagao Central Elementary School, Jose


Catolico Sr. Elementary School, Dadiangas Heights Elementary School and
Oringo Sr. Elementary School cater the Lagao National High School Secondary
student’s enrolment.

With the influx of the large number of elementary graduates, Lagao


National Highschool Annex was established by virtue of barangay resolution of
City Heights allowing the first operation for the School Year 1999-2000, duly
approved by then Schools Division Superintendent, Ms. Nenita T. Golez and the
principal of Lagao National High School Main, Mrs. Virginia C. Rebucan. Eight
secondary school teachers headed by a Head Teacher III Mr. Franklin A.
Laguesma were dispatched to spearhead the operation of extension classes.

The School started with Five (5) sections from first year level with forty five (45)
students per class. Initial classes were conducted at the Barangay Hall of the
City Heights, Occupying the stage, covered court, Barangay Health worker office
as the temporary faculty room and the open space of the basketball court. But
then, the situation doesn’t suffice the quality learning of the students got from the
teachers. Barangay Hall of City Heights was a public place, and the most of the
times, classes was disturbed.

Lagao National High School Annex moved out to a new location at


Barangay San Isidro, this city. Barangay Resolution was created duly supported
by its barangay council of San Isidro to establish an extension classes with the
temporary site at Purok Malipayon, San Isidro, General Santos City. This
became the foundation of the creation of Lagao National High School Annex.

The research will be conducted in Lagao National High School Annex


located at Purok Malipayon, Brgy. San Isdiro, General Santos City.

Research Design

The Research design used in this study is the descriptive design.The


researchers sought an in-depth understanding about the advantages and
disadvantages of using gadgets in the learning process of Senior High School
Students of Lagao National High School Annex primarily, research design helped
the researchers to gather data easily. The researchers are confident to have
precise answers to their problem.

Participants of the study

The participants of the study will be randomly selected Senior High


School students of Lagao National Highschool Annex.

Instruments to be used

The Researchers used a questionnaire to help the interviewees
understand the question more through reading. The questionnaire contains 3
questions which aims to answer the main objective of the study.

Data Collection

The Researchers prepared a permission lettter for the principal to


approved the researchers to conduct their study at Lagao National High School
Annex.After the principal approved the request, the researchers gave the
questionnaire and started to answer the questions. The Participates were asked
individually.

Data analysis

Data Analysis is the process of systematically applying statistical and/or


logical techniques to describe and illustrate, condense and recap, and evaluate
data. An essential component of ensuring data integrity is the accurate and
appropriate analysis of research findings.

Data Analysis is the application of logic to the understanding of data


that has been gathered. The data gathered from the interview will be arranged
and summarized. The Researcher then analyzed and interpreted the information
provided by the participants in accordance with the objectives of the study

RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONS

In This chapter,the researchers discuss the study and answers the


statement of the problem (SOP). The researchers take an interview to find out
the discussions, the researchers sought to find certain information about the
advantages and disadvantages of using gadgets in the learning process of
Senior High School Students of Lagao National High School-Annex The
participants expressed the advantages and disadvantages of using gadgets in
the learning process of Senior High School Students of Lagao National High
School Annex

Based on the data gathered from the participants.It is shown that;

 Students used gadgets particularly in learning.


 Gadgets mostly used are cellphone, laptop, and tablets.
 Sometimes students are allowed to do research or other related activity
while their teachers are teaching because their teachers allows to search
something related to their lesson.
 Sometimes gadgets are distraction while the students are learning
because some of them used gadgets without the permission of their
teachers. They used gadgets to play games, to chat someone and to
entertain themselves.
 Using gadgets while learning is useful because when there are words or
other topic related to the lesson, it can be search easily, we also get our

ideas and adds knowledge in this vices, also it gives us more creativity
and the students get interested in the lesson. Students can also make
documentations like photos, videos and presentation to be added in their
project
 Gadgets are important in learning because in this 21 st century, it is a
global village surrounded by gadgets. Gadgets can help the students to
work faster and get information easily. Because if there are no information
that can’t be seen in books, gadgets will help students to have that
information in just one click.

Chapter V

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS, RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter presents the summary or the research work undertaken, the
conclusions drawn and the recommendations made as an outgrowth of this
study. This study is the advantages and disadvantages of using gadgets in the
learning process of Senior High School Students of Lagao National High School
Annex

Summary

Therefore, Gadgets can help the students particularly in learning. Gadgets can
help students to learn fast and get information in just one click.

Conclusions 

Therefore gadgets is useful and important to the students because they become
creative, resourceful, and efficient. They can get more knowledge, and they can
finish their activities in every lesson conducted by their teachers easily.

Recommendations

         After drawing the conclusions of the study, the researchers hereby make
the following suggestions/recommendations:

Teachers: That they may know what is the advantage and disadvantages of
using gadgets during their class

Students: That they may know what will be the of their gadgets in their learning
process

Researcher: That the researcher may know what will be the opinion of their
fellow students regarding the research about the advantage and disadvantage of
using gadgets.

Future Researcher: That they may gain knowledge about doing a research
about the advantage and disadvantage of using gadgets.
