Adding Points To Cimplicity - SDB - Exchange r2

1. The document provides instructions for adding points to be displayed in Cimplicity HMI software. It involves defining the point in the Toolbox function level, adding it to the EGD or SRTP network in Hardware I/O Definitions, importing it into the Cimplicity and Toolbox databases, and then adding it to Cimplicity screens. 2. Key steps include adding the point to the EGD exchange page or SRTP page in Toolbox, performing a Put and Get to the SDB, importing points into Cimplicity, updating the project configuration, and verifying the point is visible in Toolbox and Cimplicity databases. 3. The final steps are stopping and restarting the

ADDING POINTS TO BE DISPLAYED IN CIMPLICITY

NOTE: These instructions assume that the computer that these modifications are being done on the HMI that has the
SDB (Signal Data Base). If it is

1) Make sure the point is defined in the Function level of Toolbox. If it is an analog point add scaling. Note: If
the Toolbox file utilizes module libraries, make the point definition in the library, then instance the point down
to the function level.
2) Go to Hardware and I/O Definitions and under the EGD network there should be some EGD Network pages,
i.e. EXCH1. Note that there are two types, one fast exchange, typically 80 ms, and one for the slow exchange
typically 480 ms.
3) Go to the end of the Exchange page and right click to insert next. Browse for the point and select the one to be
added using the browse button. The data Type will be either Real or Bool . It will be a WRITE as the
controller is writing to Cimplicity. Note: If the point is a command issued from Cimplicity, it will be a READ
as viewed from the controller .For Reals be sure to enable Scaling. Click OK
4) Pull down the Device window, and perform a Put to Database Full and Get Full. This gets the new point into
the SDB.
5) In Toolbox, perform a Validate, check for and correct any errors. Build and download the changes to the
controller, and reboot the controller.
6) Now go to START\PROGRAMS\GE CONTROL SYSTEM SOLUTIONS\SDB EXCHANGE\SDB
EXCHANGE. This should open the existing SDB exchange file. It is typically a file with a “*.xhm”
extension. Verify that the entries are correct for the HMI that you are on.
7) Under Tools, select \Get from SDB\Points\SDB by Resource. This will get the points into the Cimplicity
Master Database. There will be a Log at the bottom of the screen telling you what is being done.
8) In Cimplicity, you will need to stop the project, and perform a Configuration Update to transfer the new point
from the Cimplicity Master Database to the Runtime database. The project can be restarted after performing
the Config Update.
9) In Toolbox and in View\SDB Browser: Click on the Signal Tab and Query. In the column labeled
SIG_NAME and the row labeled Criteria type a ‘*’ (wild card) and click on OK. It should then display the
points including the new one added to the SDB. Under Cimplicity Workbench\Points you should be able to
view the points in the Cimplicity database.
10) Edit the Cimplicity screen that you want to add the point to. Test screen to verify that it functioning.

For older Toolboxes there may be SRTP points. They work basically the same way as follows:

1) Make sure the point is defined in the Function level of Toolbox.

2) Go to Hardware and I/O Definitions and under the SRTP network there should be some pages, I.E. Pg1. Note
that there are two types…..one for Setpoints %R and one for Logic’s, %M. Again the two different data types
need to be on different pages, they can not be mixed on the same page.
3) Go to the end of the Page and right click to insert next. Browse for the point and select the one to be added.
The data Type will be Long for %R and for the commands will be set for you. It will be a READ as the
controller is reading from Cimplicity. Click OK
4) Now do a Device and Put to Database Full and Get Full. This gets the new point into the SDB.
5) Now go to START\PROGRAMS\GE CONTROL SYSTEM SOLUTIONS\SDB UTILITIES\SDB
UTIILITIES.
6) Under Tools\Import\Points\SDB All. Select the SRTP Network. This will get the points into the Cimplicity
Database. There will be a Log at the bottom of the screen telling you what is being done.
11) In Toolbox and in View\SDB Browser: Click on the Signal Tab and Query. In the column labeled
SIG_NAME and the row labeled Criteria type a ‘*’ (wild card) and click on OK. It should then display the

points including the new ones added to the SDB. Under Cimplicity Workbench\Points you should be able to
view the points in the Cimplicity database.

At this point you will need go into the Cimplicity project (i.e. Gyn_SVR.gef) and stop and start the project to update
the Runtime to the Master. Now edit the Cimplicity screen to include the points.
