- Windows XP is a personal computer operating system that was produced by Microsoft as part of the Windows NT family of
operating systems.

Windows XP Starter -lower-cost version of Windows XP. Some special features for certain markets where consumers may
not be computer literate. Only three applications can be run at once on the Starter Edition, and each application may
open a maximum of three windows. The maximum screen resolution is 1024×768, and there is no support for work group
networking or domains.

Windows XP Home- designed for home users. This edition of Windows XP Home is intended for sale with certain "low-
cost" net books and will appear labeled as "Windows XP Home Edition ULCPC" (with "ULCPC" standing for "ultra low cost
personal computer").

Windows XP Professional- designed for business and power users. The ability to become part of a Windows Server
domain, a group of computers that are remotely managed by one or more central servers. Remote Desktop server, which
allows a PC to be operated by another Windows XP user over a local area network or the Internet.

Windows XP Media Center Edition- This edition, which was code-named "Freestyle" during its development. Features
are: screen dancers, auto playlist DJ, and high end visual screen savers.

Windows XP 64-bit Edition- designed to run on Intel Itanium family of microprocessors. It can run 16-bit x86 code via
Windows on Windows, Windows XP 64-Bit Edition can run standard x86 32-bit applications through its WOW64
(Windows-on-Windows 64-bit) emulation layer. A microprocessor is a computer processor which incorporates the
functions of a central processing unit on a single integrated circuit (IC), or at most a few integrated circuits.

Windows XP helps in downloads , Before downloading an attachment , you will now be alerted to unsafe attachments

and Outlook Express , Windows Xp has a security system that can be used to protect the specific folders .

Microsoft Windows XP is one of the most widely used operating systems in the world even with the release of Windows
Vista and Windows 7 , There will be no problem or conflict between the software and the hardware , And installing the
software was easy compared to the installation on other operating systems .

Windows XP was developed to improve on the faults and inconsistencies in the ME system but it is essentially a
completely new operating system , Windows XP is a complete re-write and overhaul with a slightly modified interface
compared to Windows 98 and ME , It is based upon the accredited more stable Windows 2000 and the NT platform
designed for the network users .

Windows XP can protect your email address more securely especially through Microsoft Outlook which helps to avoid

DISADVANTAGES:

Windows XP is a prime target for the malware creators , when you surf the Internet without anti-virus software , It will

damage to the operating system .
Windows XP can not be installed on multiple computers as the product activation is limited to just one computer , If you
want to install Windows XP on another computer , you will have to purchase a new license and a key code which can
prove to be very costly .
The main disadvantage of the operating system is security , Microsoft has discontinued security updates for XP ,
rendering it vulnerable to the new virus and the spyware attacks , So , The operating system is unsafe for the critical
applications such as the online banking .
Windows XP was released with a lot of drivers for hardware components at the time of its release but as of 2010 , most
of those drivers are outdated or the hardware they are made for are no longer in use , If you are running a computer
with newer hardware , you will be forced to search the Internet or elsewhere for those drivers .
