 Came in 1980’s
 Was originally developed and marketed by ‘MICROSOFT’
 Today it is the integral part of Microsoft office productivity suite.
 Used to store, analyze and organizing data, compile data, calculations, preparing charts
and graphs
 E.g. Monthly expenditure, daily schedule, travel plans, etc.
 People have used it to develop games like pacman, monopoly, candy crush, etc.
Benefits and Usefulness:-
 It can help to boost productivity and efficiency by streamlining data analysis
 Great tools which helps us to save time whilst increasing accuracy.
 Help us to improve our org. and time management
Definitions:-
 Workbook- collection of individual worksheets
 Worksheet- prime working space in excel. Collection of cells. Also called
“SPREADSHEET”
 Rows- identified by nos., horizontal grp of cells
 Columns- identified by letters, vertical grp of cells
 Quick access toolbar (QAT) - where option like save, undo, redo, etc. are there. It can
be customized.
 Ribbon- includes various icons and button. Allows us to use various commands and fns.
 Formula bar- used to enter/ edit fns, formulas and texts in worksheet
 Cells- intersection of horizontal rows and vertical columns.
 Cell address- is the combination of letters and nos.
 #### - this is visible in excel because the cell contains some numerical values and the
size of the cell is not enough to fit it. So, we have to adjust the size of the cell.

Selection of cells- shift + arrow keys

Backstage view: used to perform a. back-end operations b. manage file settings
