SAFETY RULES.

Though intended for use during normal operation of the governor to which it
is connected, this software must only be used when all the required safety
conditions have been satisfied. All.precautions must be implemented so as to
avoid interfering with the system onto which connection has been made,
following write operations in the governor’s non-volatile memory, or after a
keying error or any other form of error.
- You should stop running the software when you have no further
intervention to perform on the governor. .
- Keep a written trace of the parameter sets used for your governors in
a safe place.
The RS 232/RS 485 serial link adapter has been specially designed to operate
only with NEYRPIC Governors. This adapter should not be used for any
other purpose with any other equipment device.

STATUS
INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

STATUS provides access via a serial link to the main operating parameters
of series 1000 Governors, either NEYRPIC(R)1000 position Governors,
NEYRPIC(R)1000 speed Governors for hydraulic turbines, or
NEYRPIC(R)1000D Governors for thermal machines.
This software enables extremely fine adjustment of performance to be
obtained for the series 1000 Governor.
On-line operation sets up a real-time communication with the governor. The
operator may then modify parameters, display and/or record functional
dimensions.
Off-line operation enables preparation of a parameter set, or consultation of
records and paper print-out. In the latter case, you should connect a printer to
the computer’s parallel port.
Connection to the module via the serial link is not then required.
This software includes in its basic functions a digital oscilloscope,
facilitating analysis of the governor’s performance. The frequency of data
acquisition is compatible with the frequency of digital calculation to be
carried out by the governor.
The set of acquired data, and the set of programmed adjustments, must be
safe-copied onto a magnetic support. The data base thereby created may be
consulted at any time using the same software.

General software
The man-machine dialogue is organised according to a tree-structured path
list that provides access to all the program functions.
You will be guided by user menus.

✍ In all cases the F10 key allows you to exit the active menu in
order to return to the previous one.

PC configuration
PCs intended for use with the STATUS software must be configured so that
the «low» memory (i.e below 640 kb) available is at least 520 ko, which
implies modification of the Config.sys file as follows :
DEVICE=C :\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
ou (DEVICE=C :\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS selon structure système)
DEVICE=C :\DOS\EMM386.EXE noems
ou (DEVICE=C :\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE noems selon...)
DOS=HIGH, UMB
Then, all possible drivers should be declared by «DEVICEHIGH...».
If resident programmes are run by Autoexec.bat, this file must be installed to
install them in the high memory («LH» command).
✍ All these actions are to be carried out by IF before delivery of the
machine.

Use of STATUS under WINDOWS 95 or 98

STATUS is used only in the MS-DOS mode of windows 95/98. To access
this mode from the computer’s normal operating mode :

Conditions required for implementation

Installing STATUS software on a PC-compatible microcomputer requires
that the procedure ensuring correct software operation be respected:
- The initialisation file CONFIG.SYS installs the manager ANSI.SYS
by means of the command DEVICE = (acces path) ANSI.SYS in
order to use the extended cursor control facilities.
- The file AUTOEXEC.BAT loads the extended character set in mem-
ory in graphic mode, so as to benefit from the accented letter charac-
ters. It thus includes the command line (access path) GRAFTABL.
- The AUTOEXEC.BAT file may also install the screen hard-copy
manager. In this case it also includes the command line (access path)
GRAPHICS.

In order to operate correctly the GRAPHICS utility must be compatible with

the resolution of the video adapter, along with the type of printer being used.
Some commercial software can perform excellent screen copies, with
filtering of basic colors or redefinition of grey levels.

Organisation of the STATUS floppy disk

The figure below shows the set of files on the supplied floppy disk.
The following may be differentiated:
- An installation program INSTALL.EXE, which is required to set the
STATUS software parameters.
- A set of *.?SY files, specifying the configuration of the governors on
which you will be operating.
- A set of *.BGI files used for setting video adapter parameters.
- A set of *.CHR files containing the character font set.
✍ The *.?SY configuration files shown in figure below may be different from
the files actually present on the supplied floppy disk. The configuration
will depend on the governor type and program version.

STATUS
MAIN MENU

Off-line access to control parameters*F1

This menu enables a parameter file to be pre-configured. Connection to the

governor is therefore not required. If the governor is connected, the
adjustment parameters will not be transmitted.

Modify a parameter file *F1 F1

The operations authorized when the file is accessed are identical to those
described in the chapter Modification of control parameters.
The difference lies in the way the ENTER key is treated. The keyed-in value
is not transmitted to the governor, but is memorized in the file being edited.
When you terminate an edit session (using the F10 key), a request for
confirmation of rewrite file operations is made. Reply as you wish.
If you confirm the order, the receiving floppy disk must not be write-
protected.
The file thereby created or modified may be loaded later into the governor’s
non-volatile memoryr.
If you do not confirm the order, no trace of file modifications will be kept.

Print a parameter file *F1 F2

This specially arranged key enables a formatted print-out of a parameter file
to be obtained. In this case a printer is required.

16
USER MANUAL
MAIN MENU

Refer to the computer User Manual for details concerning connection of the
printer.
Before operation, check that connection to the printer is correct, then
validate your selection using the ENTER key.
A typical example of a print-out is supplied at the end of the chapter. Each
printed parameter is characterized by a long mnemonic, a short mnemonic,
and a programmed value.
✍ To obtain a correct listing, the printer must usually be set in condensed
character mode, which is generally obtained by the command MODE
LPT1 : 132,8 before opening a STATUS session. (According to the DOS
version).

Print memorised faults *F1 F3

This operation assumes that the faults have previously been saved to a file in
connection with the module (menu *F4 Shift F5 F2 save file, see chapter
3. Check the status of the station). If this operation has been carried out,
printing can be off-line, by simply connecting the micro-computer to a
printer (consult computer user manual).
An example of the fault printout is shown in fig. 2.7 at the end of this
chapter.

This function is only available when the computer is connected to the
governor.

Change language *F7

The menu text for the entire program may be displayed in two different
languages. The current language may be switched by using the F7 key.
However the default language, during program startup, is the language
defined for the program installation session.

Directory *F8
The current directory for recording or consulting data files is validated using
the F8 key in the main menu. The control screen is shown in figure below.
When the operator accesses this function, the main screen displays the
breakdown of the active tree structure, the graphic cursor indicating the
current work directory. Beneath the current directory, the list of accessible

CONTROL OF GOVERNING CONDITIONS

The figure below shows an example of a digital corrector. The corrector is

made up of a series of continuous blocks, with each block having
characteristic adjustment parameters, and test points. The entire set of check
points thus provides a matrix of traceability of the process being carried out.
Parameter modification and real-time checking of test points accurately
corroborate the performance of the regulation cycle.

Example of a digital corrector

Setting up communication between the computer and the governor begins by

an identification sequence. This stage includes the acquisition phase of the
governor’s characteristics (governor type NEYRPIC(R) 1000, NEYRPIC(R)
1500, software version, etc.) and a phase of acquisition of the set of
parameters authorised for adjustment. The procedure allows selection in the
governor configuration library, present on the installation directory, of the
group of files used for point-to-point junction of equipment devices.

Modifying the parameters *F4 F1

Modifying the control parameters

The menu F1 key allows acquisition of the set of governor parameters. It is

therefore necessary to connect the computer to the governor. However, after
a time-out, STATUS indicates an error message when the junction between
stations has been poorly established (Serial link fault).
✍ Consult the technical documentation of the governor to find the exact
meaning of the governor parameters.
After pressing the F1 key, the message “...Identification under way” appears
on the control screen. This indicates to the operator that the parameter set is
currently being acquired.
When this operation is over , STATUS displays on the second line of the
screen the governor name (refer to paragraph Naming of the governor for
the customization procedure), then three control windows are opened. A brief
summary of the operator commands is given at the bottom of the screen.
The window EEPROM Parameters displays four parameters from among
the adjustment set. On this window, the parameters are displayed in fully-
worded language, in their long mnemonic name. A moving cursor indicates
the current adjustment parameter.
Under the window Parameter value the parameter corresponding to the one
marked by the cursor is indicated. It is displayed in its short mnemonic form,
with its current value.
Two keys cursor up and cursor down are used to shift the display index
over the entire parameter page.
To modify the parameter value, first use the two keys to move towards the
object of your search, then enter the selected value using the digit keys.
The currently edited value may be corrected when a typing error has been
made.

➥ CURSOR RIGHT Shifts the cursor to the end of the window.

➥ CURSOR LEFT Shifts the cursor to the beginning of the window.

➥ BACK SPACE Deletes the character preceding the cursor.

➥ INSERT Activation/disactivation of the insert mode.

When the insert mode is active, the procedure enables caracters to be
inserted beneath the cursor.

When the entered value seems to you to be correct, type carriage return to
communicate the modification to the governor.
The governor automatically integrates a test and check procedure during
modification of a control parameter on its non-volatile memory.
Thus STATUS displays the modification report on the control screen, on the
right of the editing window.
Various diagnoses may be displayed:
- Parameter modified: This diagnosis informs you of the success of
your request.
- EEPROM Fault: This report is serious. It warns you of premature
ageing of non-volatile memories. The governor’s non-volatile mem-
ory is intended to support approximately twenty thousand write
operations per parameter.
- Parameter too large or Parameter too small: You have pro-
grammed a parameter value that is off centre. In this case the gover-
nor’s check device sets the parameter value to its internal electrical
stop point.
- Modification under way: on some governors (DIGIPID 02), the
copied diagnosis may be deferred for a few seconds, according to
local priorities.

Selection of plotting type * F4 F3

Selection of the signal representation mode

STATUS provides three types of representation for the plotting of

programmed functional dimensions.
The first representation is a classical X(t) representation of the selected
variables. The quantified value of the variable is shown on the Y-axis. The
temporal value is shown on the X-axis.
The second possible representation correlates the two selected signal
channels.
The third representation allows a channel to be plotted according to its
distribution function.
Selection of the representation type is, as usual, performed by using the keys
cursor up , cursor down, and confirming the selection by typing carriage
return.
When you select an XY representation of digital signals, you must also set
the signal horizon.
When you select N points, the system fills a buffer memory and displays the
N first XY points of the signals by means of a Lissajoux plot.
Each time step then empties the oldest point on the horizon from the plotting
memory, whereas a new signal acquisition clears the buffer memory.
We thus obtain a visual and temporal picture steadiness that varies according
to the number of points defined on the horizon.
2114 B - 2114d_part2.fm - 9/10/03

By convention, a horizon of null duration is equivalent to a horizon of

infinite duration .

X(T)Plotting * F4 F4

Figure above represents a typical photograph of the control screen displayed

during access to this function.
We mainly distinguish a time window on which all the signals are plotted. At
the bottom of this window, the reminder of previously-selected measurement
points is shown.
The representation scale is linear.
One scale graduation is the space indicated between two semi-long marks.
Each graduation is subdivided into five subdivisions, each representing one
fifth of the elementary quantification step.
We then distinguish four windows in which the regulation parameters are
displayed.
The over-lined window represents the current adjustment window. The
parameter contained in this window may be modified directly by the
operator. Pressing the ENTER key sends the modification value to the
governor.
After each validated transfer, the modification report is displayed at the
bottom right of the control screen.

Adjusting the plot

This paragraph describes the authorised operations to tune the adjustment of
the plotting of functional dimensions.
In any case, a help menu for adjustment is available at any time. It is accessed
by pressing the ESC key on the keyboard, and a brief summary of the
functions described above will be displayed on the control screen. To display
once more the plot of the test points, press once again on the ESC key.
The help menu will enable you to do without the user documentation once
you have become familiar with the program.

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION

This mode provides a more synthetic means of dialogue with the governor.
The screen is divided into several windows.
The two windows at the top of the screen display two of the governor’s test
points, previously selected by pressing the Channel selection key on the
previous menu.
The name of each of the chosen points is shown on each of the control
windows. To the right, the real measured value of the variable is given. Each
of the control variables is surrounded by two arrows representing the change
tendency indicators. When a dimension increases in one direction, the
associated arrow lights up, then goes out when the change is no longer
significant.
The graduated scale represented at the centre of the window shows the
graphic representation of the test point.
Reading of the luminous scale is identical to reading of variables represented
in Scope mode, the reminder of the quantification step and variable offset are
shown at the bottom of the window.
The following line shows the computer’s real-time clock. Refer to your
computer reference guide in order to reset the clock if required.
You thus have a chronometer at your disposal. Check for example the rise
time for the speed/load settings programmed on the governor
The following sub-screen displays system faults that may be listed by the
governor. The date indicated for the fault is the date of occurence of failure.
Finally, the last window indicates in fully-worded language the changes in
governing conditions.

DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION

DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION

The plotting of a test point distribution function is frequently used to study

the statistical distribution of the signal around its modal value.
This function is carried out by fixing a set number of equivalence classes;
this number then defines a horizon for representation of the signal. Each
signal value is distributed to the class with equivalent amplitude. The values
beyond the horizon are folded back onto the end classes. By indicating the
relative frequencies on the X-axis, we obtain a graphic representation of
occurence distributions as shown in figure page 43

Description of reception screen .

Graphic representation of distribution

The test point plotted is a channel selected from among the set of pre-
selected channels. Transition from one test point to another is obtained by
typing the “carriage return” key.
The signal taken into account is then centered with respect to the first
acquisition.
2114 B - 2114d_part2.fm - 9/10/03

Figure page 43 shows a typical screen when the plotting is activated with
display of graphic cursors. For each variable, the average value of the signal
is given, along with its standard deviation.

41
STATUS
DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION

The X-axis is graduated from 0 to 100 % :the accumulated relative frequency

with the largest amplitude is represented by 100% of the graduation scale, i.e.
an enlargement coefficient for the bar diagram. On the figure, the main class
occupies 2.4308 % of the total number of acquired samples.
The graphic cursors are manipulated using the function keys as described in
the paragraph “Display of graphic cursors in X(t) mode”. The vertical
cursor indicates the amplitude of a line and its relative frequency of
occurence. The horizontal cursor provides information concerning only the
set of points that have the same frequency of occurence.

Data recording context * F4 F6 F1

The file identification name obeys a rule for automatic construction. The
identifier is made up of three distinct parts. The suffix of the file name is
managed according to the recording context. The prefix is itself subdivided
into two components: a programmable component, made up of four
characters, and an automatic component, made up of four figures.
The table below shows all the suffixes generated by the program.

SUFFIX DESIGNATION
.CAM Surface cam or linearisation law

.DON Recording of temporal data

.HST Local governor histograms

.IP Integrated component file.CAM

.PAR Control adjustment parameters

.E2P Bit to bit copying of governor parameterization

.MAP Editable file

The programmable component is initialised by the user. A commentary may

also be linked to the record, and indicates, in general, in abbreviated form, the
circumstances of recording. For DON type files, the recording time is the
elapsed time after which the data file is automatically closed by STATUS. If
the programmed time is zero, the file must be closed by the
operator (the file will be closed however when the disk space is
saturated).
Follow the procedure indicated in figure page 45 in order to program the
record context.

44
USER MANUAL
DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION

Definition of recording context.

✍ Though the number of files that may be recorded is only limited by

the available disk space, the program can only process a batch of 100
files when a particular type is consulted for read operations. It is
therefore recommended to copy the entire set on another directory, or on
a floppy disk, when this saturation limit is approached (in particular for
the files of type .DON, for which the rate of creation may be high).

Details concerning automatic file numbering

The incremental number is reset to zero each time the operator modifies the
programmable component, on condition that a recording session has not
been made with the newly-edited name. In this case, the first number
available in the working directory resets the incremental number. The
incremental number applies to all types of file handled by the software. The
number is incremented each time that a record is made, and regardless of its
type, except for the files with .PAR suffix, for which the entered name is
free.

Save parameters * F4 F6 F2
You can memorize the set of adjustment parameter values present on the
2114 B - 2114d_part2.fm - 9/10/03

governor at any time .

Enter the file name in which you wish recording to be made, and validate by
typing carriage return.

45
STATUS
DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION

It is not necessary to enter the file extension. STATUS automatically

manages a .PAR extension for this type of data. The save operation depends
on the current confidentiality level.
The files created in this way may be printed on a paper support, in order to
keep a written trace of the parameter value set (See off-line access to
control parameters).

Restoring a parameter file * F4 F6 F3

STATUS enables the governor’s saved configuration to be restored in one
operation. This is done in particular when it consists in resetting a group of
governors with identical functions: in this way the operation of entering the
parameters one after the other is avoided.
Select the target file from among the set of files in the current directory.
If an incident occurs during downloading, the transfer will be temporarily
suspended. The operator may then take note of the message error associated
with the impossibility to carry out transfer, and then decide to continue the
transfer operation by typing carriage return, or to abandon using the F10 key.
Some governor parameters can only be modified dynamically when certain
safety conditions apply (for example: the absence of an “on” order for a
series 1000 Governor). Consult the technical notice for each product in order
to find out the particular conditions that are required to program the
parameter set.
✍ The simple transfer of parameters is however not sufficient to ensure
an overall reset of the equipment. This type of transfer must always be
associated with the transfer of the cams or linearisation laws used by the
application.

LF Generator * F4 F6 F4

Using the internal signal generator facilitates the operations of adjustment of

station control, and reduces the volume of the control devices (LF generator,
etc.) to be brought to the Plant.

46
USER MANUAL
DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION

In its basic version, this software incorporates the possibility of managing

four distinct signal types. Figure page 47 shows the control screen when this
function is called up, with the four available signals.

Signals available on the LF generator.

Start value

End value

Time base

First select the type of signal required, by using the keys “cursor up”, “cursor
down” on the keyboard; validate your action by typing carriage return, then
indicate the maximum and minimum values for which the signal should
operate. Finally enter the signal period.
The definition domain of the end values selected must comply with the
variation domain indicated in the technical notice for each product. When the
three data entry operations have been carried out, the program automatically
validates a transition to real-time plotting mode. You may always cancel the
current operation using the F10 key.
The programmed signal is applied according to the status of the governor’s
grafcet. It may be oriented as a load setpoint, as a speed setpoint, as a
servomotor position setpoint, etc. The signal application mode is generally
connected to the governor’s characteristics.
The fact that the governor should take the signal into account may depend on
local conditions. When these conditions do not apply, the signal is not
applied.
(Example : on series 1000 Governors, acceptance of this function depends
on programming of the PN-NUM parameter).
2114 B - 2114d_part2.fm - 9/10/03

Testing input/output logic states * F4 F7

A test of binary-state governor input/outputs is available using the F7 key. In
this case the typical screen displays the logical data in the form of a data

DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION

Reading local histograms * F4 F8

The digital governor has a device for local recording of three pre-selected
functional dimensions.
This device, commonly called the black box of the governor, enables
surveillance of the governor’s usage rate, and study of its operating
characteristics. It can give a warning of premature downgrading of the
regulation cycle performance, and serve as an indicator for replacement of
certain parts.
The principle of operation depends on the generation of distribution functions
for the functional dimensions. The measured data items are distributed over a
set of 20 equivalence classes. Each class gives the synthesis of an
accumulated occurence frequency, and information on each indicator is
recorded for a 24-hour period in the governor’s volatile memory, at the
scanning frequency of 1 Hertz.
Daily data may be displayed under the heading “daily histogram” of the
data operating mode. When twenty four hours have passed, the contents of
each equivalence class is added to the contents of the corresponding
equivalence class, but stored in the governor’s non-volatile memory.
The two headings “long histogram” and “accumulated histogram”
give access respectively to the data contained in the non-volatile memory,
and to the data summed over both memory types.
Reading of the control screen is identical to the description in the paragraph
entitled “distribution functions”.
The information storage capacity amounts to several years.

Saving a parameter configuration * F2 F2 F4

The governor’s current adjustment parameters constitute the first field of the
record file. The set of adjustment values may therefore be extracted from the
file. The file thus obtained may then be printed or modifiied (cf chapter
entitled “Off-line access to control parameters”) or downloaded once more
onto an equivalent governor (spare equipment, etc). The parameter file that
results from this operation has the same prefix as the mother file. The file is
of type .PAR. The parameter file creation date is the same as the recording
date of the .DON source file.
A request for creation or rewrite of the .PAR file is proposed as preliminary
to the write operation. Reply as you wish.

Particular arrangements during record consultation

Modifications of adjustment parameters (signal quantification steps, time
base, offsets) of the various functional dimensions recorded are always
possible, according to the instructions given in the previous chapter (Control
of governing conditions).
However, adjustment modifications must be validated using the “carriage
return” key for the X(t) plotting. The file is once more scanned from its origin
for the other representation modes.
When terminating consultation of the record, and if modifications have been
made to the functional dimensions, a procedure allows the new adjustment
values to be recorded on the file, and thus enables them to be found again
during later access.
Amongst other things, this feature enables new framing at the beginning of
the recording to be made when the data items given are not very
representative of the process to be illustrated. The new file write operation
does not modify its creation date.

Supplement for the X(t) mode

When consulting a record in X(t) plotting mode, a stop on still picture is
forced by the software as soon as the right end stop of the plotter is reached.
Reading of the rest of the record is carried out by using the “cursor right” key,
whereas positionning towards the beginning of the record is obtained by
using the “cursor left” key.
The vertical graphic cursor (called up by the F9 key) acts as a genuine
electronic knife and enables data to be framed at the beginning of the
window.
In addition, the cursor displays a supplementary indicator of the time spent
since the last recording on the data field.

INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

STATUS enables conjugation or linearisation laws to be programmed, and

transferred to a digital governor.
There are however significant differences of interpretation of some
functional keys, linked to the type of governor used. It is therefore necessary
to carefully read the programming notice of the governor before carrying out
any manipulation.
Each law is defined over 9 intervals (10 points) chosen by the designer to
approach the target curve as closely as posssible. The law obtained
systematically passes via its definition points.
The present software version includes two curve modes:
- Linear curve is available for all governors.
- Governors of the 1000 series are equipped with a special interpola-
tion algorithm, which enables left curves or left surfaces to be plot-
ted. Spline third order functions have been implemented for this
purpose; they enable the angles present in the traditional laws with
linear segments to be rounded. Programming such functions
requires a minimum of design in order to optimize the result: select-
ing large intervals in the spots with a strongly pronounced curve is
not a good choice, making strongly pronounced curves by using a
high density of points consumes definition calculation resources and
requires considerable data entry. Likewise, virtual points may be
used outside the operating window to control the voltage of the
curve over the appropriate space.

USER MANUAL
INTRODUCTION

Description of the reception screen * F5

The figure below shows the reception screen when this mode is selected. This
is the main menu used for acting on laws.

Description of reception screen

The control screen is divided into four main parts.

On the left of the screen, the main window shows the graphic plotting of
laws. The law programmed by the designer is plotted according to an XY
coordinate. Each of the coordinate axes is represented by a scale with ten
graduations. Each graduation is in itself divided into five elementary
graduations. The total range represents the domain of variation of functional
dimensions involved in calculation of the law, according to the programmed
units of representation.
The window opened beneath the graphic screen comprises three fields. Each
field indicates one of the three current X,Y,Z coordinates. The XY
coordinates materialise the position of the graphic cursor symbolised by an
arrow on the tracer.
The working sheet is drawn to the right of the screen. It represents a table
including the law’s definition points.
A reminder of definition units is shown at the bottom of the sheet.
2114 B - 2114d_part3.fm - 9/10/03

The column located on the left of the working sheet indicates the increasing
index, numbered from 0 to 9, for each of the point pairs (Xi,Yi) of the law.
Finally a moveable cursor points to the point pair that may be edited.
The window drawn below the working sheet represents the list of operating
keys for this mode. Pressing on the keys PgUp or Pgdown gives access to the
following menu components.

STATUS
FILES STRUCTURE

FILES STRUCTURE

The STATUS software is delivered with a library describing all the cams and
linearisation laws of the governors on which you may carry out operations.
The library is made up of all the files with the suffix .CSY that are present on
the delivered disk. A file of type .CSY supervises the possible operations of
the governor.
The laws and surface cams are manipulated within two object classes. The
elementary object is a law. Each programmed law is saved on a file with
suffix .IP . A law is characterised by the set of doublets (Xi,Yi) which define
it, by a customizing comment, by the value of its curve attribute (spline or
linear).
A surface cam is a collection of laws. Any cam is saved on a file of type
.CAM, with data chaining towards its component set.
A linearisation law is an object of type .CAM, which only has one single law.
A surface cam can contain a maximum of ten laws.

62
USER MANUAL
FILES STRUCTURE

An object of type .CAM is thus characterised by the target governor type

(example DIGIPID 02 , NEYRPIC(R)1000 , NEYRPIC(R)1000D ...etc), by
the target attribution index on the governor (e.g. Limitation law according to
overfeed pressure, injecter-deflecter conjugation law, blades-vanes,
conjugation curves according to drop hight, etc), by the coordinate system
used for representation, by data chaining towards its various components.

Working configuration * F5 F3
Fig. 0.1 : Working configuration

✍ The first stage consists in opening a working session using the F3 key
reserved for this purpose. A specific menu then proposes to define the
working area that you wish to allocate. You may then:
- Access an existing configuration
- Create a configuration
- Re-define a coordinate system on an existing object

Accessing an existing configuration

2114 B - 2114d_part3.fm - 9/10/03

The window opened at the top of the screen indicates the set of .CAM type
objects that are present on the working directory. Select a file by using the
keys “cursor up”, “cursor down”, then validate you selection by typing
carriage return.
During selection operations, the type of governor and the target index of the
pointed .CAM file are displayed as a reminder, on the last line of the control
screen.

Creating a configuration * F5 F3 F1
Configuration creation stages

When you press the F1 key a new window is activated. First enter the
recording prefix (4 characters maximum) used by the automatic file
numbering system. Select the target governor type (ex : DIGIPID 02 ,
NEYRPIC(R)1000 , positionneur NEYRPIC(R)1000 ...etc). Choose the type
of cam to be programmed from among the list proposed. Define the unit
systems needed for your selection on the following operations.

Defining a coordinate system *F5 F3 F2

The internal data items taken into account to calculate the different curve
polynome coefficients are standardized with respect to the user-defined
representation system. The operator may thus define, in the selected unit, the
maximum and minimum values corresponding to the sensor’s stop-to-stop
acquisition range.
Example :
A 0/10 volts sensor supplies electrical voltage to the postion of a motor cog
for which the mechanical stops are included between -6 and 20 millimeters in
the user reference system.
The software enables you to define the 0-volt sensor by the -6mm mechanical
stop, the 10-volt sensor by the 20mm mechanical stop, the representation unit
by millimeters. The definition points are thus standardized for any value
included between -6 and 20 mm, and represent virtual points for any point
located outside the definition segment.
STATUS automatically generates a translation of doublets (Xi,Yi) over the
new unit system when it is modified.
You may shorten this stage by pressing the F10 key if you wish to retain the
current representation system.

USER MANUAL
EDITING A LAW

EDITING A LAW

When the working session has been defined, the reception menu (figure 1.1
becomes active again; you may enter the set of doublets (Xi,Yi), according
to your technical specifications. The induced curve is plotted from the third
validated point on the table: this is also the minimum number of points that
will enable you to perform the save operations of the law.
It is not necessary to program the abcissa according to the increasing order of
Xi values. The working sheet is sorted and cleared for each new pair of
points. Likewise data entry may be interrupted before the entire ten pairs
have been entered, once the rate of the process has been acquired.
✍ The system automatically superposes onto the definition curve a limiting
curve of ordinate Y0 (respectively Yn) when a terminal point is edited
beyond (respectively within) the standardisation value corresponding to
the sensor. No parameters are communicated to the governor during this
study phase. It is therefore not necessary to produce the law on the Plant.
The following keys are operational in order to fill out the working sheet:
2114 B - 2114d_part3.fm - 9/10/03

➥ CURSOR UP Moving the cursor over the table.

CURSOR DOWN This operation enables the digital cursor to be shifted over the X or Y
columns. Acting in one direction remains without effect once the logical stop
of the window has been reached, or once the square following the last
programmed pair has been reached.

➥ CURSOR RIGHT Moving the cursor over the table.

CURSOR LEFT

65
STATUS
EDITING A LAW

This operation enables the cursor position to be alternated over the X and Y
columns. The next line skip is automatically generated when the action is
repeated. It remains without effect one the logical stop of the window has
been reached, or onece the dquare following the last programmed pair has
been reached.

➥ BKSp KEY Correcting the pointed value.

Pressing the enter key allows corrective action to be taken on the value
currently being edited. The last character in the string is deleted, and the
digital cursor moves backwards by one position.

➥ ENTER KEY Validation of an Xi or Yi point.

Pressing the key validates the Xi or Yi data item. The digital cursor is set on
the next square. The law is only recalculated at validation of the pair of
points. When you only modify the Xi value of the pair, validate the
associated Yi ordinate a second time.

➥ DEL KEY Deleting a pair of points.

Pressing the key deletes the pair (Xi,Yi) pointed by the digital cursor. The
cursor points to Xi or Yi independently. A translation of points further down
the table is automatically generated.

➥ END KEY Deleting all the paires of points

After confirmation, pressing on the key deletes all the points programmed on
the working sheet. The tracer is reset, the digital cursor is set on index 0. A
new law may be programmed, and no save operation has been carried out.

➥ SPLINE LINEAR When the governor supports both curve modes, this key alternates the
different representations.

Saving a law * F5 F2
The F2 key on the reception menu enables you to save the current law on a
magnetic support. You may associate a free comment with the file. It will be
faithfully reproduced on the control screen during read operations, now
validate the Z component associated with the law.
The name of the saved file is generated by the program’s automatic
numbering system. The first characters of the file name correspond to the
prefix edited during the previous stages (see figure 1.2). The following
character is a figure indicating the positioning of the law within the cam. The
last three figures are calculated automatically according to the record
environment present. For more details, refer to the chapter concerning this
usage. A brief example is shown above in figure page 12.
The save operation is carried out. For a surface cam, edit the next component.
It is not mandatory to entering the component by increasing Zi index.
Do not forget to save the programmed laws before quitting this mode.

ACCES COMPOSANTS

ACCES COMPOSANTS

Access to components of a surface cam

All the laws programmed for a surface cam may be accessed using the F1
key on the reception menu. This key is not operational for a simple
linearisation law. The latter becomes directly available for display check or
modification as soon as the working environment has been determined.
Five types of possible action on a cam are available:
- Changing components
- Plotting the set of cam components
- Checking the pre-setting of a law to a particular Z value
- Plotting a network of interpolated curves
- Deleting a cam component

Changing a component * F5 F1
Use the keys “cursor up”, “cursor down” to select the access file. For each
movement the customisation comment of the law appears on the last line of
the control screen. Validate your choice by a carriage return. The law is

available in edit mode.

Reading a cam * F5 F1 F1
The F1 key enables display of the set of cam components.

67
STATUS
ACCES COMPOSANTS

Intermediate law * F5 F1 F2
STATUS authorises the display of an interpolated law on the cam. Enter the
value of the Z component for which you wish a display to be made. The
network of memorised laws becomes active on the graphic screen, the
interpolated law is superposed on the plotting. You may use the save key to
record doublets (Xi,Yi) of the interpolated law which then becomes an
integral part of the definition laws.
The digital governors have the capability of interpolating a law concerning a
surface cam according to the Z-component measured on the input sensor.
This action thereby anticipates the the governor’s response to excitation
measured in real time. If the interpolated law does not correspond to the rate
required by the process, you should add a law on the definition cam.
Otherwise you may economize the data entry and maintenance of a law.

Beamlets * F5 F1 F3
Lines of curved laws

Likewise you can plot a network of interpolated laws between the definition
curves on the control screen, in order to better understand the rate of the
process created. Key in the number of curves required per step. Observe the
network of laws thereby created.

USING A MOUSE

USING A MOUSE

Conditions of use
Management of a mouse improves the program’s user-friendliness.
To obtain this advantage you should procure a mouse from an ordinary
supplier, with the software environment required for implementation. The
mouse will be of Microsoft type, and you should follow the installation
instructions provided by the constructor.
Move the mouse. The installation is correct if you observe a shift of the
graphic cursor on the control screen.
In this case, also observe the modification of cursor coordinate display.

Possible adjustments
Using the mouse, you can of course have rapid access to the values of the
linearisation function located outside its definition points.
Point the graphic cursor directly on the representative curve, and note the
interpolated calculated values.
If the plotting seems to you to be doubtful on a part of the curve, either
because of marked rupture of slope, or by large grouping of law definition
points, a magnification of the graphic zone considered is possible.
By moving the mouse, set the graphic cursor near the area to be magnified,
then press on the left button of the mouse.
The graphic cursor will go out, and a rectangle will appear on the tracer.
While maintaining the left button in the pressed position, move the mouse.
The rectangle will change size, according to the movement amplitude.
Surround the section of the curve to be magnified, then release the left button
of the mouse.
STATUS causes the picture to be magnified, proportionally to the dimension
of the rectangle that you had set.
The coordinate system is also recalculated by the program. Repeat the
operation to observe greater detail, and make corrective action if necessary
on the points definition table.
Simply pressing on the right-hand mouse button will bring back the original

General saving of parameters *F9 F1

Saving Procedure
The contents of EEPROM memories are recorded in a file with a suffix.E2P,
hich conforms to the rule for the automatic construction of ile names. ith
confirmation from the operator, it is possible to generate a file with a suffix.
MAP, which can be printed in DOS using the PRINT control.
The list obtained is usually associated to the filed documents of the governor.
A file of E2P type represents a bit to bit copy of memories, without
distinguishing the intrinsic signification of bytes.
When recording additional signature checks are stored in the file to prevent
the source from being damaged when it is restored.
Two display methods are represented during the procedure’s progress :
- Without creating a .MAP file, only the percentage of processing car-
ried out is displayed,
- Otherwise, the video unit displays the content of memories. The
automatic scrolling is deleted by pressing the espace key. If this key
is pressed a second time, the following page is displayed (...etc). If
any other key is pressed the automatic scrolling is rebooted.

Reading of print document

Each document page displays to blocks of 256 bytes of the non volatile
memory. The beginning of each line (4 characters followed by «.») indicates
the adress of the first bytes. The values of the following 16 bytes are written
in a hexadecimal mode, followed by their printout in ascii mode. This
representation has the advantage of a faster reading of the document when
looking for the difference between two blocks at the same address from
distinct sources.
Similary, the partial checksum of each block is given. This represents the
modulo 16 bits sums of bytes at even (E) and odd (O) addresses.
The bytes which do not take part in the calculation of the signature of the
memories are preceded by a dash (-). The inscribed are as correspond to data
automatically modified by the governor (ex. the local histograms saved
2114 B - 2114d_part3.fm - 9/10/03

every 24 hours).
This feature is created in order to leave the signature of memories re-
enterable during the life-cycle of the governor.
On the last page of the document, the overall checksum of the memory’s
bytes is given : this is the modulo 32 bits sum of all the non inscribed data of
EEPROM components.

Restoration of parameters *F9 F2

The procedure allows a previously saved file to be restored. The operator first
selects the file to be transferred out of all available sources in the current
directory. When the operation is entered, the video display unit indicates the
percentage of transfer carried out. The uploading can only be carried out
when the governor is stopped and any incidence during the transfer is duly
indicated.
✍ This feature can regenerate the black box of governors from the 1000
series while maintaining the operation records.
The restoration procedure is only applicable on identical versions of
software. When the software is changed, it is necessary to restore
parameterization complying with the following actions :

A communication and exchange structure is generated round the governors

from the RS485 serial link. The field network so formed allows a multi-
point link and a two-direction communication to be carried out between all
the stations involved.
The operation of the STATUS software in grid and point to point is identical.
The grid or point-to-point operation is automatically detected by the software
without parameterization being needed. When the configuration is
determined, it remains applicable during the whole session of the program.
Also, STATUS automatically detects the number of subscribers existing on
the transmission line.
The stations of the grid are sequentially numbered from the address n°10 and
an indication in the right-hand corner of the monitoring screen displays the
station to be used for parameter modification as shown on the figure below :

Characteristics required
The computer and the governor must both be equipped with a modem, in
order to allow remote connection.
The modems used must accept the HAYES command set.The transmission
characteristics of the character are then 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, without parity,
to be able to handle the general case of 10-bit modems. The possible
transmission rates may be programmed at:
• 1200 bauds,
• 2400 bauds,
• or 4800 bauds.
The governor must, however, be pre-configured by the NEYRPIC
commissioning terminal to accept this operating mode.
The modem will be configured to use the Hayes AT command set, and should
supply a response to commands recieved. On the other hand the echo modes
of commands and data echos will be disabled.

key, then authorizes data entry in the reference area of the pointed block.
Enter the Plant name, and possibly the Unit name.
A pre-existing name may be corrected by bringing the cursor back to the
beginning of the word using the “back space” key. Validate by typing
“carriage return” again, or perform this action directly in order to move to
the call number field. Modify or edit the call number according to the same
procedure. The table is then sorted into alphabetical order.
Keying of the telephone call number must be compatible with the HAYES
syntax. Space characters may be used to improve readability of the code.

Calling * F6 F1

Hooking up * F6 F2
Set the graphic cursor on a call reference on the table, by using the keys
“cursor up”, “cursor down”. Then make the call by pressing the F1 key and
allowing communication to be set up. The local modem response is
displayed at the bottom of the screen when the line has been acquired or if
connection cannot be made.
Example : “Connected at 2400 bauds”, “Network incident”.
In the event of failure, the operator may start a new call by pressing directly
on the F1 key. Otherwise communication is established and the set of
functionalities of the STATUS software is available.

Return time * F6 F3
Return time corresponds to the time necessary for a modem to move from
reception to transmission and vice versa. Some satellite communication calls
require a time of waiting between the message transmitted by one station and
the one transmitted by its counterpart, when the link is particularly poor or
when the network requires this time. The F3 key on the menu enables this
waiting time to be adjusted accurately. Enter the time out value in seconds
(example 0.1 seconds). This operation must only be carried out if call
connection has been established.

S Dialing of a recorded number

You should however consult the modem’s technical manual to obtain more
suitable programming.

Using your preferred editor you may create a MODEM.SYS file containing a
set of HAYES commands. These commands will be transmitted to the
modem during any attempt to connect. It is not necessary to place the
command AT in front of each command line, since this will be transmitted
directly by the STATUS software. Consult the modem’s programming
