Are we ready for the new normal in education?

This question caught the mind of every Filipinos especially the parents, who
wanted their children to have an education and a good future. Many Filipinos are now
afraid to send their children in school because of the COVID 19 pandemic that is
happening this time.

According to Charles Eisenstein, “WE sense that ‘normal’ isn’t coming back, that we are
being born into a new normal: a new kind of society, a new relationship to the earth, a
new experience of being human.

that we are in a new normal situation.

The American Dictionary defines new normal as “a previously unfamiliar or a typical

situation that has become standard, usual, or expected.”
<https://www.lexico.com/definition/the_new_normal>What was previously unfamiliar
that has this time become standard, usual, or expected?

What has become ‘normal’? The lockdowns, quarantines, masks, washing hands,
taking vitamins and nutrient-rich food to nurture health, covering a coughing mouth and
sneezing nose, physical distancing, and the omnipresent support technology are a
“must” to continue for a lifetime. These and more compose the new normal.

In the new normal, there should be a stronger home and school partnership
can facilitate better and more consistent communication and collaboration between
teachers and parents. Communication of learning goals, expectations, and feedback
can help sustain the needed collaborative relationship between the parents, and the
teacher. To do this, the school can create opportunities that can teach parents how to
navigate the online learning environment, guide their children as they learn online, and
even, nourish their children’s curiosity at home. This idea on partnership can be still be
further expanded to include the local community, especially the local governments units.
In the new normal, sustainable and supportive external partnerships with local
governments units, non-governments organizations, and other institutions that can help
in enabling a responsive education continuity program should be explored. As schools
explore these possibilities for partnership, school leaders and administrators should
always keep in mind the need to maintain and guard their institution’s integrity and
independence from any self-serving motives that can interfere with the school’s vision
and goals. The new normal of the society is anything but ordinary said Francis Jim
Tuscano. In a new normal world people will have an adjustments in all aspects of life
like spiritual, physical, mental and financial especially the parents, teachers and
students.
