Detailed Solutions

1. 8x 3 – 27 3 = (2x) 3 –(3y) 3
= (2x – 3y) (4x 2 + 9y 2 + 6xy). Ans.(2)
2. x 3+ y 3 + 2x 2 – 2y 2 = (x 3 + y3) + 2(x 2 – y 2)
= (x + y) (x 2 + y2 – xy) + 2(x + y) = (x + y) (x 2 + y 2 –xy + 2x – 2y). Ans.(2)
3. The co-ordinates of the centroid of ∆ ABC are

FG −1 + 5 + 8 , 0 − 2 + 2IJ = (4, 0). Ans.(4)

H 3 3 K
4. Let the co-ordinates of C be (x, y). Then,

−1 + 5+ x 4+2+ y
= 0 and = –3 i.e. x = –4 and y = –15.
3 3
Hence, the co-ordinates of C are (–4, –15). Ans.(3)

y z x y z x
5. Given Exp. = . . = × × = 1. Ans.(3)
x y z x y z

6. Clearly, x = 4 will make each one of the given expressions zero.

So, 16 – 4m – 8 = 0 or m = 2. Ans.(3)
7. x 2 + xy – 2y 2 = x2 – y 2 + xy – y 2 = (x 2 – y 2) + y (x – y) = (x – y) (x + 2y)
Putting x = y in (4x 3 + 3x 2y – 9xy 2 + 2y 3), it becomes zero.
So, (x – y) is a factor. On dividing, we get
(4x 3 + 3x 2y – 9xy 2 + 2y 3) = (x – y) (4x 2 + 7xy – 2y 2) = (x – y) (x + 2y) (4x – y)
∴ H.C.F. = (x – y) (x + 2y). Ans.(3)
8. Area = (49x 2 + 28x + 4) = (7x + 2)2. So, side = (7x + 2). Ans.(3)

1
9. Rate of current = (16 – 11) kmph = 2.5 kmph. Ans.(1)
2

10. Relative speed =

FG 150 + 100 IJ m/sec = FG 250 × 18IJ km/hr = 90 km/hr..
H 10 K H 100 5 K
∴ Speed of second train = (90 – 30) km/hr = 60 km/hr. Ans.(2)
