LEONARDO DICAPRIO SPEECH DURING THE UN CLIMATE CHANGE SUMMIT

A Critique Review

Leonardo DiCaprio is a worldwide renowned Hollywood actor. Famously played

as Jack in Titanic, he received an Oscar for Best an Actor on the starred film, The
Revenant in 2015. During the 88th Academy Awards, his short speech was brought
awareness on the alarming issue our world has currently battling. After a year, he was
invited by the United Nation to talk on the UN Climate Change Summit. Then again, his
speech was gone controversial throughout the world. To take such a multifaceted issue
such as climate change, and boil it down to an easily understandable speech that is no
certain terms. Took the immediate necessity with which we need to take action to help
mitigate the dreading effects of climate change take some skills.
You can hate him no matter what his statement was and it is right that you could
say Leonardo DiCaprio is being hypocritical as he doesn’t exactly live a particularly low-
carbon living. Still, to give such a strong voice in such a comprehensible manner to an
issue that perhaps not everyone shares the same understanding with every single one
of us does not sound a bad thing.
Moreover, adhering to the subject-verb agreement rules, the speech observed
the proper subject-verb agreement rules. This means that the speech correctly followed
the proper format with regards to the agreement rules. But the speech was not perfect
though. Based on the transcript of the speech the line, “None of this is rhetoric, and
none of it is hysteria. It is fact.” was missing an article before the noun “fact.” An article
is like a short word like “the” or “a” that puts before the noun to make it clear what the
noun denotes to.
Furthermore, the speech was more than that. Climate change is a complex issue
that the whole world has been currently facing. It needs full-fledged attention and notice
because we are facing the extremities of it. Climate change is real and it’s alarming, and
everyone should know that. On the other hand, Leonardo DiCaprio’s intention was
comprehensible. The speech alone gave us the spectrum of the dilemma and disclosed
some heartfelt pieces of evidence of climate change. The stance of the speaker and the
words used have been perfectly exchanged clear and memorable thoughts to the
audience.
On my account, the speech was a staggering wake-up call to everyone. We
heard so much news about the intensifying drought, excessive rains, or the melting of
snow caps in Greenland and Antarctica. Unfortunately, these things were formed
because of us. We are so ignorant of the real happenings around us. We preferred fast
and efficient energy that caused global warming. We were abusive with our natural
resources, and so everything.
But more devastatingly, we neglected the effects of climate change.
That’s a mere fact. Yet, what we can do to mitigate its effect were to be certain
on supporting big heads or organizations that actively engaging our environment, asked
for help or an inquiry on the national department that concerns with the climate change,
or be updated of the status quo regarding with our environment, and more importantly,
clean your surroundings and learn to be a propeller of little actions.
Nonetheless, Earth is the only planet that offers life. That is why we need to save
ours from devastating climate change. Do not wait until such time. The time to answer
the greatest dilemma of our existence on this earth...is now!
