DRRR FIRE HAZARD
Activity No.1
Fire has both positive and negative effects and that the goal of everyone
is to minimize the negative effects of fire. Let us be acquainted with that
pros and cons of fire by completing the table with as many as you can
think of.
PROS CONS
Source of heat and light Destroys homes and especially lives of
many people
Used to power homes and industries Can damage the trees and plants that
prevents erotion
Can restore the ecological balance and Destroy livelihood for the people
facilitate regeneration
Removes low growing bush, cleans forest With the oxygen present, fire could start
floor of debris, opens up to sunlight and through faulty electrical wiring, cigarette
nourishes the soil. butts, static electricity, and concentrated
sunlight
ACTIVITY NO. 2
Ask the learners to research a recorded news clipping of a fire incident in
your locality or in the Philippines and identify the fire cause, fire triangle,
and the class of fire by answering the following questions:
What caused the fire? How did it start?
The explosion of automatic tubig machine and faulty electrical wiring that triggered the fire. The
fire began in the house owned by one of the residents in Sitio Panting, Baranggay San Roque,
Cebu City. The fire fighters were having a hard time controlling the fire due to the strong wind
experienced.
Under which fire class could this be classified into?
The fire can be classified into the class c because it started due to the faulty electrical wiring and
the appliance called the automatic tubig machine.
Is it possible for the fire incident to be prevented?
In my own opinion, yes, there is a possibility for the fire incident to be prevented.
If yes, what steps could the people have taken? (Give at least 2
concrete steps.)
Always check if there are faulty or damaged electrical wirings to prevent any possible fire
incident
Always check for the appliances as they could be the cause of potential breakout of fire.
If no, discuss why it is not possible to prevent the fire incident
ACTVITY NO. 3
There are many ways to prevent accidental fires. First, look at the
fire triangle. If just a single component of the fire triangle is absent,
then accidental fires could be prevented. What is we are working
on an observatory experiment and you are given only a set of the
following materials: a thin candle, matchsticks, scissors, and a
transparent drinking glass. Answer comprehensively the following
questions:
Is there a way to light the candle without using the
matchstick, and only the other materials given to them?
No, there is no way.
What is the purpose of the wick?
The wick holds and support the flame of the candle wax and it delivers the fuel to the flame.
Is it possible to light the candle without it?
It is not possible because when you light a wax, it will only melt. The wick is necessary to keep
the molten wax in place long enough to vaporize.
How does one remove the oxygen from the set-up?
Cover the candle with a drinking glass
Summarize the ways at how the fire triangle was broken and what
precautionary measures they could do in order to prevent
unwanted fires.
When flammable materials comes in contact with heat, the energy will start to react with the
oxygen that gives off heat. This results to the cycle of fire to spread. In order to break the cycle
one of the elements must be removed.
Precautionary Measures:
Prepare escape route
Conduct fire drills and evacuation plans
Store flammable materials away from heat
Prepare fire extinguishers near exits
Check the house regularly to monitor possible cause of fire.
ACTIVITY NO. 4
(A) Answer the following questions in the event that there is fire:
If you are in a burning room (fire phase: from ignition to
growth), what do you need to do in order to survive?
Use fire extinguishers to put off fire or if not available use a damp cloth to put off fire.
If you are in a burning room (fire phase: fully developed to
decay), what do you need to do to in order to survive?
Cover my nose with a damp cloth and look for the emergency exit.
If you were able to observe a place being devoured by fire,
what do you need to do?
Call the emergency hotline of the nearest fire station in the area.
When the fire alarm signals, stay calm and evacuate to a safe area.
Immediately inform other people of incoming fire.
Use the available fire extinguishers to put off the fire.
If the fire is getting larger then look fire the nearest exit and evacuate right away.
Cover nose to prevent the smoke from inhaling.
