Network File Servers Opportunities: The Following Are Partial Customer Lists of Two NFS Company's
Network File Servers Opportunities: The Following Are Partial Customer Lists of Two NFS Company's
1. Auspex
2. Network Appliances
As you can see, NFS is found in most industries and is used for various applications. Other
companies in the NFS business are, SUN, HP, DEC, SGI and a host of other CPU vendors. EMC
has now entered the market utilizing the Symmetrix High Performance Disk Subsystem as the
backbone to the design. As part of EMC’s MOSAIC 2000 Architecture, EMC simply added
Front-End processor or data movers utilizing the DART (Data Access Real Time) operating
system packaged in a Symmetrix 3200 cabinet. All components are redundant and Hot Plugable.
1 to 14 data movers can be configured in one 3200 cabinet depending on performance and
capacity requirements. Each data mover can be configured with up to 2 network attachments
which do not have to be the same ((1) FDDI (1) 10/100 Base T). Please check with Rick
DiMaggio or Steve Walsh for the currently supported Network Interfaces.
Goals for 1996 have gone up. NFS is a sure way to help you crush your number. The NSG
(Network Storage Group) is currently looking for ACT (Advance Customer Test) sites. Please
use this list as a starting point in identifying NFS users. Also another great way is your currently
installed sites. We have a opportunity to blow this market away and become the market leader in
NFS. Why? There are some very real problems with NFS today, here are a couple:
I/O is the leading cause of poor performance in NFS environment today. General purpose
Operating System and UNIX Server performance has increased significantly while disk
speeds have remained stagnant.
- Upgradeability
Since general purpose (i.e. SUN, HP, DEC, etc) UNIX Servers are use for the Front-
End and JBOD is used for the Back-End. It is difficult and expensive to upgrade. Most NFS
sites are custom configured and very difficult to upgrade.
- Availability/Reliability
EMC is the only company that can answer today’s NFS problems. Our product is the fastest most
reliable and upgradeable NFS system in the world.
Some questions to ask your current customers to start building a pipeline:
Again, we need to identify 6 ACT sites ASAP. If you have opportunities, please call Rick
DiMaggio, at 716-387-0970 ASAP. The NSG is also available for sales calls today. Please set-
up calls for presentation or provide a phone number and contact name to Rick DiMaggio or Steve
Walsh and they will qualify the accounts for you.
If you have any questions, please e-mail Rick DiMaggio or Steve Walsh.
