CHAPTER III

RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODOLOGY

This chapter covers the methodology used in developing this system. It

includes the research design, data gathering tools, research instruments, design

process and software and hardware specification. It also presents the different

figures that served as guides in creating this system.

Research Design and Methodology

The descriptive method of research was used in this study, utilizing

particularly interview and observation were applied for the researcher to produce

an accurate understanding of certain problem. This process helped the

researchers to fully understand the background of the project.

“Sipocot Market Space Rental Management System V.2” was developed

through procedures and series of steps. The researchers conducted a study to

conceptualize and sustain the needs of the respondent, and the project itself. For

the system to be developed and implemented, the researchers used Software

Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model. SDLC helps to understand how the

project evolves and contains the stages and series of steps in creating and

developing this kind of project or system.

Through the analysis of the data gathered, the researchers developed a

new system that served as compilation of client’s information, reservation and

accommodation that help the recipient lessen their burden and make the task

easy.

Data Gathering Technique

The data gathering technique that applied to the study was interview

method. Researchers conduct an interview to gather information about the

transactions in Sipocot Public Market when Renting a Stall. The advantage of

direct interview is that there is a personal interaction between the interviewer

and the interviewee, you can also ask Questions directly and get responds

quickly.

Architectural Design

10
Figure 3.1. System Architecture of “ Sipocot Market Space Rental
Management System V.2”

It defines architectural design as the process of defining a collection of

hardware and software components and their interfaces to establish the

framework for the development of the system. It is an abstraction level in which

the designers can specify the functional and performance behavior of the

system. Through the architectural design is the responsibility of the developers,

some other people like user representatives, system engineers, hardware

engineers, and operation personnel are also involved. All these stakeholders

must also be consulted while reviewing the architectural design in order to

minimize the risk and errors.

User – The renter or the user were the one who makes registration and

reservation. The user will benefit from the system through providing maps,

locating all the location of the graves in each branch.

Market Supervisor – Market Supervisor or personnel are the one who were

allowed to access and perform on their own task while providing customer

services. Having access to the system makes it easy for them to contact and

record all information and changes upon updates.

11
Internet – Internet is the vital tool use for exchanging data and information, a

channel for communicating with the people, Sending updates and each.

System Server – Is an operating system specifically designed to run on

servers, which are specialized computers that operate within a client/server that

serve the requests of client computers on the network.

Web – based System – Is the system itself that is use to deliver information

and services, to users or other Information system.

Database - It is where the system stores, organizes and manages large amount

of information within the system.

Management System V.2”

Figure 3.2 shows the Context Diagram of Sipocot Market Space Rental

Management System V.2 this diagram start with process zero which shows the

system itself and it has two entities which is the Supervisor and the Tenant. The

Supervisor is the one that Manipulate the System. The Tenant will provide

information for the registration, reservation and contract information. The

system will provide the information depend upon the request input by the client

while the Supervisor will be the one who manage all the transaction and the

details came from the Tenants and includes Tenants details, Stall information

and Stall Reservation and payment history.

Management System V.2”

13
Figure 3.3 shows the flow of the data into the entire system. The

execution of the system starts with the log-in where the Supervisor must have a

correct username and password so that he/she can access the system and

manipulate every data and information from the client up to the Stall. Tenant

must need also to fill-up or sign for registration so that he/she can proceed for

the stall transaction that includes Stall information, stall reservation, stall location

and contract information and payment notification.

Rental Management System V.2”

The customer can access the different branch of the SMSRMS and choose

for the nearest location of the stall to chose and see if its available or occupied.

Each branch has a lot stalls with a stall status and type. The stall data which is

reserved, occupied and available. Available are the stall that is free from

reservation that provided to the renters provided by SMSRMS STALL MAPS. The

renters can make a user account to sign contract and to create an interment and

payment.

System Requirements

System requirements serve as the guideline as opposed to an absolute

rule and for the system to be used efficiently, all recommended software,

hardware and the user requirements must be met each of these three

components has individual role but are connected to perform a task properly.

Software Requirements

15
Table 3.1 presents the Operating System used in developing the system

which is Windows 7 or even higher. Operating System is responsible for the

management of all resources of computer it is also important in defining system

requirements. The PHP were the programming language used for web services

to be developed along with the MySQL it is an open source relational database

management system which is mainly used to create databases. It is based on the

structure query language (SQL) Server, which is used in adding, removing and

modifying information in the database.

Hardware Requirements

Computer hardware is the collection of physical components that

constitute a computer system. The following were the hardware components

which was used to run the system.

Table 3.2 presents the hardware needed in order for the system to be

utilized. The researchers used an Intel(R) Core i3-6006U CPU @ 2.00GHz 1.99

GHz it is the type of processor that the researchers used for a fast and

convenience performance in running the application during the system

development. It has 4GB RAM where all the data are saved and stored.
