A Message of Dread For Numbers

Marie Soul shares her dislike for numbers and math in her speech. She recalls loving numbers as a junior high student when receiving her crush's phone number, but has hated math since taking pre-calculus and general mathematics courses involving complicated expressions with x's, y's, and other symbols. Though she spent a night trying to understand problems involving ellipses, she remained sleepless and confused. She concludes by encouraging the audience that learning math can be fun, and its practical uses will be appreciated later even if not now.

ENTERTAINMENT SPEECH EXAMPLE

A MESSAGE OF DREAD FOR NUMBERS

by: Marie Soul

Good afternoon everyone!

Can you guys remember the last time you loved numbers? Because I think mine was

when, my crush for the year 2012 gave me his eleven digits and since then I kept on sending him

group messages sent just to him alone. But don’t get me wrong, I know I hate math, the moment

I stepped my feet on the grounds of my junior high school alma mater, because math was never

the math that I’ve used to know. It’s like math with the whole team of alphabet. Totally

different!

But I think, within my sixteen years of existence, I’ve never, ever, ever hated math this

much. As far as my forgetful memory is concerned, it was June 4, 2018 that I came to know pre-

calculus and general mathematics. With all those x’s, y’s, seven raised to infinity times xy equals

f of x of something, I totally don’t understand. But don’t get me wrong again, like I spent a night

until 2 AM just to understand a problem in relation to ellipse, but to no avail, I didn’t get

anything. I was double killed, sleepless and unknowledgeable. During exams, I’d be like a, b, c

or d.

But eventhough things are hard, even math, I have to think, we have to think that:

“Learning Math is fun”. We may not appreciate its existence now, sooner or later we would,

because things, even math, have practical uses. Aja! Fighting!
