CE - 304
By observation, it is safe to say that so far, most of the buildings I have been to
comply with design codes. Firstly, these buildings are designed and structured
with building components as they would not function as buildings without these
components. All are composed of their foundation—framing and footing,
ventilation, electrical, plumbing systems. There are certain requirements when
it comes to codes. Residential buildings I have been to seem to comply with
the National Building Codes of the Philippines, although I am not too certain
with the compliance according to permitted measurements. I have not
studied the requirements concerning commercial buildings although I am
certain that these buildings have their permits. Buildings will not be built if they
do not comply with the rules of the code.
Some buildings, of course, age. The National Building Code of the Philippines
has been revised before and so, all buildings must still follow the rules, making
alterations and conversions according to the code. The house that I reside in
has been standing on its ground for more than 70 years and so far, it has been
renovated. I am sure that there are still many buildings that fail to comply with
the rules of the code, as some buildings are not built by professional designers
such as architects and engineers. This circumstance should be avoided. This
could threaten the safety of the occupants of buildings.
