For each topic, students will be given a variety of questions that
associate with the topic. Before students take their chapter test,
they must hand in their workbook questions to be marked.
Workbook Students will be receiving a mark out of 10, 5 marks will ✓
contribute to a completion mark and another 5 will be for student
understanding of skills and concepts. There will be 4 separate
marks for each topic.
After each topic students will be doing a google form consisting of
5 questions relevant to the topic. Students will be given 10-15
Topic Quizzes minutes to complete these quizzes. For example, students will do a ✓
quiz after section 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 so they will have a total of 3
quizzes for this chapter.
During a review class before the chapter test, students will be

Entrance Slips will be done prior to a quiz, that will consist of 2-3
questions related to a particular topic or section. Student marks
will be recorded but will NOT count towards their mark for the

Introduction to Chapter 1 ordered pairs. [C, CN, V]

Overview: (please connect lesson explicitly to EQ) We will first be going through and writing down
the different vocabulary students will need to know for the chapter. Then we will start with topic 1.1
The Cartesian Plane. We will first write down the objectives, explore the basics of the Cartesian
plane including the axis, quadrants, origin, and coordinates, and practice a few examples of
plotting points on the Cartesian plane. After, we will review the topic’s key ideas and then students
will be given time to work on 1.1 questions in their workbooks.

Coordinate battleship ordered pairs. [C, CN, V]

Overview: (please connect lesson explicitly to EQ) In this lesson, students will be playing
battleship against their peers. They will do this by taking part in a ladder competition. Students will
be placed randomly on the ladder steps. They will be able to verse anyone up to 3 spots ahead of
them. If they win they switch spots with their opponent but if they lose they stay. If students have
not finished their workbook questions, allow time for students to finish and the ones that have can
continue playing battleship. After, if time allows, students will be given a Cartesian plan with the
length of the x-axis and the length of the y-axis. The teacher will then give then coordinates to plot,
while they are plotting the coordinates the students must try to guess the image the coordinates
will form.

C6–3.4]

Overview: (please connect lesson explicitly to EQ) In this lesson, students will review translations,
reflections, and rotations by taking part in a scavenger hunt to find the lost image. Students will
first scan the QR code using their cellphones. This will then lead them to their first question where
they will create a specific shape with the coordinates given and then perform a specific
transformation of the shape. Once they have their answer, they must have the teacher verify the
answer is correct. Then, once the teacher says its right, the teacher will provide the next QR code
to scan. They will continue the process until the last QR code gives instructions to combine all
shapes and coordinates onto one cartesian plane to form an image, once they believe they have
correctly made and guessing the image, they tell the teacher and if they are right they have then
completed the scavenger hunt and if they were not, they must go back and try again. Before the
end of class reveal the lost image to the whole class.
